The Israel-Gaza war and wider Middle-East tensions (9 Viewers)

"It has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIRE... for 12 hours"

He is his own HBO comedy sketch

“As of now, there is NO ‘agreement’ on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations,” Araghchi wrote. “However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.”

Araghchi added: “The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later.”

They've literally started again.

Is Trump starting to remind anyone else of one of those pathetic separated Dads bellowing at the kids to behave in McDonald’s?

If this is World War 3 and it doesn't result in the death of humanity, that "they don't know what the fuck they're doing" clip better be in every documentary!

I mean that is actually the smartest and most astute thing thing this tangerine scrotum ever said.

I have a meeting later about something that has gone wrong, and I will be deploying "THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE DOING" during it

*I am the "they" in question :(

Netanyahu set to raise the ante by calling Ayatollah Khamenei a cunt later today.

If we got "what the fuck" Trump all the time, we'd be in a better place

Sadly he's still a BATSHIT narcissist with borderline dementia :(

Who the fuck is an Ayatollah apologist? To hell with him. You, on the other hand, probably think Trump isn’t that bad after all.
Girl, sit down. "To hell with him" is such a bullshit cop-out that doesn't solve shit. He's a monster who has absolutely ravaged the Middle East, including murdering his own people. And you're over here deflecting with a pathetic attempt at a personal 'read'? Fucking hilarious.

He 100% deserves to have every ounce of his power ripped from him and cannot wait to see the day his people dethrone his barbaric regime - whether with the help of an American clown president or any other clown.

Now - for your underhanded assumption that I think "he's not that bad after all". Don't fucking put words in my mouth. Especially when I've already voiced my opinions on his policies and his character and continue to do so on a very regular basis. Would YOU be happy if I insinuated that you think the Ayatollah is "just a bit misunderstood"? Would YOU be satisfied if people just conveniently dismiss Trump with "to hell with him"?

Honestly, I'm a little sad DC. Like, I'm not some political grifter. I have both a formal education and lived experience in Middle Eastern politics, and your personal assumption robs the topic of all nuance.

You do realise you are telling this to me? Someone who grew up in both Iraq and Lebanon and has experienced that barbaric regime first hand. I don’t need to be told about it, I KNOW IT.

Please go ahead and try to insinuate that I support the Iranian regime in any sort or form, you’ll just end up ridiculing yourself.

But hey, I’m glad you hate the Ayatollah regime as much as I do. You’ll just never find me supporting the current American approach that has proven to be SUCH a resounding success in the region in previous attempts :eyes:

Of course I know your background! That's what made YOUR blatant assumption so fucking childish and awful. Despite me having already voiced my opinion on both these characters abundantly, you still went ahead and put words in my mouth. If anyone should've NOT done that it's you.

Oh but it’s not assumptions, love. Trump is an undisputed fascist and you clearly know that. And that doesn’t change just because we don’t like the opponent he has chosen now.

And I'll be happy to see him leave the White House as much as anybody else here. Conversely, I'm happy to see the Ayatollah defeated and humiliated. He's an undisputed tyrant and that doesn't change just because we don't like the person who checked him.

I got a bit uncomfortable today when my brother shared this. The situation for Palestinians is getting more and more desperate and people should be angry and activists and do something about it, but I don't know how to challenge people when they do fall into talking points that go beyond pro-palestinian and teeter into anti-semitism, because I know it'll be taken offensively and the term anti-semitic has been bandied about as a weapon to excuse the awful things happening.

Surely it's OK to be totally opposed to the treatment of Gaza and Palestinians, whilst also acknowledging that:

i) Zionism is complex and the need for an independent Jewish state stemmed from centuries of deeply rooted anti-semitism and pogroms, and;

ii) Some of the instances below may have been places considered by early Zionists, but were more widely and infamously considered by the likes of the Nazis as a way of eradicating Jewish people from their home nations.

It feels sometimes like any opportunity for dialogue is long past.
