He's an insufferable cunt and he'd do well learning the basic tenets of debating but some of the points he's making are valid.
 
All the US news media is insanely partisan, but the fact that when pressed for a solid example the first he came up with was Joe Rogan being criticised for pushing horse tranquilisers says it all…

I watched this yesterday and thought that a lot of what he was saying (once he actually got to the point) seemed to make sense. (And I say this as someone who normally thinks the opposite of what he’s saying namely that it’s better to have something half good than nothing at all, which was what the other two was trying to say).
I’m not really familiar with his point of view in general though.
 
I can't deal with him at all. I'm in a WhatsApp group with a bunch of friends/colleagues where someone this morning has shared a clip of him on some US chat show talking about the opioid crisis in the US. If I just READ him, I agree with a lot of what he says. But the whole presentation of it is utterly intolerable and I cannot bear it.
 
Also Brand is actively palling around with the Trump family now, which instantly shatters whatever slim thread of credibility he might have once had. He’s a grifter through and through.
 
This is the third time I read the word grifter today (which I haven’t heard/read before).
 
I presumed he was living a quiet life with his family and wasn’t interested in a career so not sure where this new right-wing grift has appeared from.
 
He’s mostly a Youtuber these days. I don’t think he can get work doing much else.
 
It’s very weird, I saw him live years ago and the whole show was about how the Murdoch media shut him down and ruined his career because he was left wing and wouldn’t play ball.

He must be flat broke and back on the whizz if he’s hitching his wagon to them now to preach the opposite.

I don't think I remember using it recently, but I've used 'gyp' (as in my knee is giving me gyp) loads over the years. Apparently that's a different meaning than the swindle/defraud one, and isn't from a derogatory (and seemingly more often spelled 'jip' or 'gip').

But 'gyppy' as in 'gyppy tummy' does have the same origin as gypsy - a form of Egyptian.

Language is a complete minefield.
 
Unfortunately, I believe the origin of using the word to describe pain is derogatory, despite usually being spelled 'jip'. I didn't know this until about a month ago when I saw a thing about it on Instagram (meaning it was on TikTok 6-9 months ago) so I'm equally guilty here. I'd never actually heard the term used by Goldberg tho' - that seems to be a US thing.
 
It is a word that has come to mean something else entirely. I would argue that most people who use it are completely unaware of the origin.

Semantics.
 
Thing is, he’ll now get blowback from wading into the issue and get his feelings hurt, then most likely double down and go the complete fash. Like clockwork with these people who think it’s all just a “debate” :eyes:

Unless I’m reading it wrong, isn’t he correct?

The debate has gone on for years with the strange argument that gay parts should only be played by gay people, which is 100% wrong. I get that it’s not exactly the same thing but I do think there’s a point.

The debate should be more around trans actors being supported to take on non-trans roles, which currently doesn’t happen often if at all.
 
It's a tricky one, because in a perfect world I think I agree that everyone should be able to play whatever they like. However, we live in a world where trans people are vastly underrepresented which leads to their stories invariably being told and performed by cis people, which feels grossly unfair. That's the way I've usually seen this particular argument framed, rather than a blanket THEY CAN'T DO THAT scolding but I know that will also be how some people feel about it.
 
it's more difficult to justify saying all gay roles should be played by gays than all trans roles should be played by trans actors, imo. there are so few opportunities for the latter. half the acting world is gay!

and at the end of the day, acting is acting. a gay person should be able to play straight cos they're, you know, acting.

This is exactly how I feel about it. And when their stories are not told that often in the great scheme of things, a cis actor being given it (often to great plaudits and acclaim) is really galling.

As i believe somebody in the replies to that tweet said, it's like we're in a 'correction' phase now where I personally feel that people who have had the opportunity to play any part for their whole career ought to stand aside and champion people who haven't - and certainly not centre themselves as being hard done by in the process.
