How do you rate this motion picture?

Do we think Anne is going lead or supporting for this for the Oscars? Hoping she goes lead so Samantha can stand a chance for supporting, guessing Matt Damon and Robert are both locks for lead/supporting noms also.
 
Also, I realise this is deeply unpopular, but I thought the score was just fine. I know he's acclaimed, but I'm not a fan of Ludwig Göransson's work. His score served the film reasonably well, but I found it bland and certainly not memorable in any way. I prefer my scores to be much more melodic and rousing.
 
I absolutely LOVED this. Somewhat unexpectedly as I find Nolan a bore. I was caught up in the storytelling and found it all so thrilling

Wild that of the 8 years he was missing post war, 7 of them were spent getting date raped on a beach by Charlize Theron. Bit grim. Also wild that Tamwar off EastEnders had one of the biggest roles. I hope he knew he's going bald on top before seeing this film, because imagine finding out by seeing it on the big screen!!!

Highlights were the horse stuff and Circe, but I was loving it all.

Weak link was Tom Holland. Twink death and he's no Laurence Olivier, is he dear

This was brilliant. I had some misgivings, for example the blandifying of Athena, and Odysseus lacking the wily trickster energy he's famous for, but that all made sense by the time the film came to a close.

There is a different film that I long for that embraces the high-fantasy and the glamour and the Olympian soap opera of it all, but that wasn't what this film was about and that's FINE. It was, I thought, very powerful, very absorbing and had something to say about the world today.

I would agree that Tom Holland was a bit of a letdown. He plays a wet lettuce very well, but I didn't feel he had been on a journey at the end. He was still a wet lettuce, so maybe he's just not a very good actor.

Anne Hathaway though! What a star! What an actor!
 
I don't know if it was genuine or movie magic, but I was very impressed by Anne Hathaway appearing to have a fully mobile forehead. She really was imperious in this, in the best possible way.

I don’t really get why these classicists and experts can’t grasp that it’s just a Hollywood film based on The Odyssey. It couldn’t ever live up to or convey everything. It sounds like they’ve paid her to be absolutely OTT in criticism about a film that clearly is doing so well and is thrilling audiences. It whiffs a bit of gatekeeping and snobbery.

Someone needs to remind her that she didn’t write The Odyssey; she translated it.

And she should be reminded in the style of Edina to the gallery receptionist in Ab Fab!

Tbh father is a direct Germanic branch cognate of Greek πατήρ (or πάτερ), both descending from the same Proto-Indo-European root. English father, German vater, Dutch vader, and Greek πατήρ/πάτερ are all related words. In short father is essentially the same word in Greek that just happened to evolve on a different branch.
 
Just back from this. After the first 20 minutes, during which I lay back and started closing my eyes for a nap, I was absolutely compelled once the set piece scenes started. I thought Damon was an excellent lead.

Somewhat baffled that TAMWAR from Eastenders had a significant role in this! How did he get there?

Much more fun to watch her being a hater than to read it! (She talks about the film from around 14 minutes in).
 
Loved this, though should really have been an HBO series than a film.

Emily Wilson did have one good point though, all the food did look horrible!
 
I doubt I'd have watched it as a series. Hope this brings back one off masterpieces. Less shitty franchises and more expensive three hour epics please.
