The Things That Aren’t As Good As They Used To Be Chatbox

are poptarts not available in England any more? The article is kind of unclear

Having Shloer with Christmas dinner was considered rather fancy back in the day (for teetotal households). Regarding the article its strange as I recall several horrible dinners served up by my mum as a child but once I left for uni she became and has remained an amazing cook.

The only things we had from that list were crinkle cut micro chips and Mini Kievs.

I have a distinct memory of my brother making plates of frozen vol-au-vents with chicken sauce heated up as a filling, as his actual dinner :D

We had that at SCHOOL!

Then the leftover vol-au-vents would turn up the next day filled with jelly and squirty cream :(

We had a brief window where we were allowed Pop Tarts but only for breakfast and I soon came to prefer the extra time in bed

I seem to remember the chocolate ones being quite unpleasant anyway

One must need an awful lot of it to fill it to the top, which is what I presume one does
I also presume you're meant to change it after use and not just leave it sitting there for a month, which is definitely what I would do

I did have a friend from Plymouth whose FIRST PRIORITY when he moved into his flat in London was to buy a deep fat fryer :disco:

Oh ME TOO. And there's nothing worse than the taste of OLD OIL

My grocery store now has a large poptart selection

My parents never would have bought poptarts, which is why I love them now probably (also sugary cereal)

I was too excited to go into a Walmart when I went to the States. Truly a cave of wonders and a chamber of horrors rolled into one indulgent fever dream

Which Walmart location were you lucky enough to go to? And did you make it to Target :disco:?

This is a bit off topic, but we have Sweet Sue here too apparently

Oh no idea, it was on one of my coach tours as a lunch break. The first was New Orleans to NYC, the second was NYC to LA via Canada, so I think I can only narrow it down to about 30 states :D

Does it matter much? If it’s like British supermarkets/retail parks they’re all basically the same

Well of the two Walmarts I go to regularly, only one has guns :manson: But yeah they range from a little sad to fully bleak

I was mist excited to visit a SUPER WALMART and being instructed to have a nice day by a professional greeter.

They had guns and, more amusingly, clear pots of that blue and red watery hair gel that used to be here in supermarkets in the 80s which stained your school uniform shirt collar dreadfully.

I not only own a deep fat fryer (honestly, it's delightful to make your own battered fish), but i keep the oil. I let it cool and put it back in the bottle until it's really gone a bit shit.

That's true or at least every two uses (assuming it's just potatoes you're deep frying) and you have to use lots of it each time as Zu said. Keeping the used oil to reuse it later, or refilling some new to blend with the old each time, are popular practices but not very healthy.

It's deep frying. At which point was it ever going to be healthy?
