Labour and Reform are feeding the same beast with the same rhetoric, of course they're happy for Reform to win, that's why they're campaigning against the Greens.

Surely she's plotting to announce Your Party are part of the Greens now and she's their new leader AS WE SPEAK.
 
I wonder if/when we'll get some labour MPs defecting to Greens

in politics here and across Europe and beyond, everybody who's not on the progressive left sees them as the biggest threat to the status quo and to their existence. the "centre-left" would rather align with the right than the left. there's a lot to learn from how terrified everybody is of the left. they know that once democracy is restored and people have a taste of something good it's over for them. an oversimplification of course but that's the general pattern we can see in many countries.

Labour MPs have said for weeks that the outcome they most feared at the Gorton and Denton byelection was a Green party victory. On Friday morning, those fears were realised.

The Greens’ convincing win in the Manchester seat ... gives progressive voters a clear signal that they do not have to vote Labour to beat Reform – a signal that could prove catastrophic for the government in some of its strongest heartlands over the next few years.

“What makes this loss so consequential to Labour is not just the scale of the defeat but the message it sends to voters about future contests,” said the pollster Luke Tryl. “One of Labour’s ace cards had been the hope that, however frustrated or disillusioned progressive voters might be with the Starmer government, the threat of Reform would be enough to bring them back into the fold and reunite the left – a similar approach to President Macron’s re-election against Marine Le Pen [in France].

“But that argument risks collapsing following last night’s result.”

perhaps if so fearful they could give us a vision for the country and serve some progressive policy! just a thought!
 
The right portray capitalism as if it's always been here and is essential to a normal way of life when it is actually fairly new and is visibly failing - privatisation of public services has been calamatous and everyone knows it.
 
I am genuinely infuriated at Keir’s “shock and disappointment” that they lost.

Was he really expecting them to walk it? Is he blissfully unaware at how quickly he has flushed away Labour’s comeback and voting power? Does he ever turn on the TV, or speak to other humans?
 
It's almost as if he had no idea why people voted Labour in the election in the first place.
 
Mahmood seems pretty committed to stopping Wes Streeting being the most hateful cabinet member.
 
If Starmer got ousted and Labour made a visible lurch to the left to tackle the threat from the Greens, would anyone here be more likely to vote for them again? In my constituency they’re literally the only viable choice to ward off Reform/Restore so the decision’s been made for me; I wondered what the consensus is in places where people have actual options.
 
Of those who voted Labour in 2024, just 37% would vote Labour again, 25% would now vote Green, 8% Lib Dem and 20% don't know, would not vote or refused to say.

Labour will be wiped out. I feel the next GE is gonna be a straightforward Greens (and potential coalition with Lib Dem) vs. Reform fight.

Yeah, for me there’s no choice either really. We’ve got a very popular Labour incumbent and no real Green presence. At this stage, I can’t see me voting for anyone else, despite my frustrations.
 
I voted tactically last time around in what is/was a very Labour safe seat.

Hard to say, right now I'd vote Green but if I thought Reform had any chance, I'd put that aside out of obligation.

This is nonsense, though. As for that 20%, a lot are going to be dithering Labour voters with a predisposition for voting Labour anyway, it doesn’t take into account tactical voting or the way the voting system itself currently works.
 
The Greens are also currently riding the high that Reform had a while back. That’s also going to fade over time, particularly once the media get involved.
