Which is horrifying because we know that usually what happens in these two (US/UK) eventually happens to us as well.
 
It feels like there are two stages to this that we keep seeing over and over. The first is often the same: Electing/Having someone who will lead to a governance crisis, some smaller, some bigger (Trump, Johnson, Bolsonaro, Orban, Meloni (tbc), Kurz in Austria, if Le Pen got elected in France).

That person will get voted off/removed at some point and then depending on how the fallout is handled, it's either national crisis with almost irrevocable damage (UK, at least financially) or very slow recovery of revocable damage (Austria). The US probably sits somewhere in the middle. Had Jan 6th gone even worse, it would have been irrevocable.

E.g. for Italy I would assume it might be revocable because no government lasts longer than 2 years right now. :zombie:

Austria also escaped a longer Kurz/FPÖ stranglehold because - thank God - someone leaked Ibiza-Partygate and they were held accountable by enough groups whereas accountability left DS 10 completely during the Johnson years, didn't it? It's just a carousel of Tory cronies battling for the scraps while the country hits rock bottom.

How can it not be on the scale of the 2010s? Public services have never recovered from the first round of austerity. It's not like we had a few years of that and now there's loads of cash being wasted. We've just had years of appalling service ever since.
 
I love the implication that these departments are just sitting around being all inefficient, and then they come to a massive realisation that they could just be more efficient when Jezza Hunt asks. OH? WE COULD JUST DO THINGS BETTER/CHEAPER? I HAD NO IDEA!!!
 
Girls, do we want Lizzy to stay in power and drive the country further into the abyss, or have her replaced by a "unity" candidate who might steady the ship, and potentially win back some Tory voters?
 
Jeremy Hunter is a doer and he’s not afraid of being unpopular if he wants to push something through - plus he has been waiting his entire career for this opportunity. He is far too ruthless to let Truss fuck up whatever manifesto he will want to push through.

I’m not saying we should be worried but… it’s not quite the time to be celebrating their demise yet.
 
I think it's too far gone now to be a matter of if we prefer Truss to stay in power or not. It's over.

If the Tories manage to brazen that out without another Election, then we could have reason to worry about the next few years. But for now I'm resigned to just enjoying the fallout. :disco:

Plus of course it's only been a Tory administration in since the last lot of efficiency savings. If there are inefficiencies, why? Isn't that supposedly what the Tories are.good at?

I'd massively prefer Truss to stay and see them destroyed at the polls.

Hopefully the swing isn't just about Truss and Kwarteng and more about Tory fatigue/ fury, because I don't see her lasting past the spring.

When all this is finally over, I'll be interested to see what part (if any) Joe Lycett's trolling of her, and his description of her (and the rest of the contenders) as 'dregs' and 'backwash' played in it.
 
Yesterday the rumour was that over 100 letters had already been sent to the 1922 committee. That number can only go up…
