On the one hand, the markets recovered quite well this morning, which reduces the pressure to make a change at the top.

On the other, virtually everything Truss campaigned on and attempted to implement with the mini-budget has now been completely scrapped. Total humiliation and it's clear to everyone now that she's PM in name only, Hunt is running the show now.

So will they finish the job and get rid this week, or let her limp on for a while?

targeted support is what it should be all along, not universal. right now even the wealthiest households are heaving their energy bills capped. no household earning 200k+ needs to worry if energy bills are 3k or 6k a year. especially as they're likely USING A LOT MORE in their MANSIONS.

All I get from this is efficiency savings (NOT austerity apparently) because of the money this government has lost in the last 6 weeks

So our taxes for the next ten years are paying for a budget crafted by two people in a room, one of whom is sacked and the other one is on their way out.

I disagree. Universalism has some advantages. It can't be construed as "unfair" and, crucially, no one will be missed. If you target support there will be people who need support but don't qualify.

yes but right now the markets are volatile partly because there's a huge black hole in public finances. they can save plenty of money by making it not universal and eliminating high earners completely.
