Most places I've been with gender-neutral toilets like that also have men's and women's toilets elsewhere anyway though, so it feels like a non issue.

What is so stupid about this is that the immediate responsibility probably does sit elsewhere but if you were the Department for Education and you had sent out a warning 5 years ago, wouldn’t you instinctively (direct responsibility or not) check in on what had been done and if nothing had been done, taken it out of local authority hands? The government can’t just shrug its shoulders and say ‘well we sent a letter!’

There's surely loads of stuff like this that has slipped between the cracks because pretty much every position has changed hands so many times recently.

Interestingly (maybe), according to the News Agents, is that apparently she came in as the SoS and asked why nothing had been done, so made the decision to close schools. No. 10 is fuming about this and thinks she went too far, too quickly. I don’t have any sympathy for her, it’s her job, but if true it is a damning indictment of how crap Sunak’s administration is.

And she certainly shouldn’t be asking for thanks

She’s been SoS since last October though. If she had made this decision in early summer, she might have got the praise she wanted. Leaving it a few days before the start of term is ridiculous.
