Trade war with Europe hardly screams MID-TERMS WINNER! Which makes me think he’ll wait until after them or SCRAP THEM ALL TOGETHER!

The US seem to be operating on the assumption that they can just walk in and take Greenland with zero resistance. But if Europe has troops stationed there, would they actually open fire? Because that would clearly cross a line that would be incredibly difficult to walk back.

According to Trump, we can. MAGA is frothing at the mouth for a war

A bunch of European states, including the UK and Denmark, have made their national security dependent on humping America's star-spangled trouser leg for a very long time, so I don't think Europe would ever fight back, even if cornered.
They would try diplomacy and ecomonic measures to delay an incident until change of leadership in us politics but u can see that they are seeking some sort of alternative to Nato for European defense with the SAFE program etc.

I think that at least Denmark is legally obliged to do so in such a case.

I meant would the US fire on NATO troops, not the other way around. But I guess either way it’d be a no going back moment.

to do anything that would hurt the EU economy would also be a gift to every populist or hard right party in Europe. is it worth it? "we suffer a bit for the greater good" won't really wash in these times.
Yeah but

I have a theory that he can actually see the ballroom. It's a hallucination caused by the degredation of his brain tissue and they've had to build it because he gets confused every time he tries to walk into it and finds it's not there.

this one not killed thankfully

what are these ICE agents supposedly drafted in for? they seem to be the cause of any disorder, not a reaction to it?

Every single day I put off making travel plans for my supposed six week working trip to the US this summer and I swear this thread is the main reason behind it!

Exactly. To cause chaos and spread fear. They're literally Trump's Gestapo.

I’ve been planning a group Prince pilgrimage to Minneapolis for my 50th next year for years, and as of right now it’s not happening.

I was about to say, HOLD ON, you're OLDER THAN ME and then realised I'm 50 next year too :D :(

In all honesty, I don't know what to do. (Work) Politically it's VERY good for me to be in the US this summer, but I REALLY don't want to be. I could go to Mexico again, I guess, but I didn't love where we went last time, though that could have been clouded by going a day after my Mum died now I think about it :D

Do you have to give them your social media handles and e-mails/passwords? Or is that just for certain countries? A colleague of mine is taking her kids to Disney World this spring, I couldn't imagine travelling there voluntarily atm...

I honestly don't know, but I don't think I can risk it- I've been fairly vocal in so many places. The risk for me is I fork out on a load of stuff work-wise and can't get in. It's just not worth bothering with...

Personally I'd be all over giving Mexico another whirl.

The thing for me that also screwed it was the seaweed- the whole coast smelled and you couldn't really swim. That with high temperatures wasn't fun.

I don't want to go inland...I need a sea!

To be honest I think you'd all be fine to go in terms of safety, but I get it if it's coming for more of a discomfort or moralistic standpoint.
I really don’t think that there is much cause for concern for British (or European in general) visitors. Unless you are part of a community where a lot of illegal immigrants live or are actively going to protests against ICE, things seem exactly the same as always. I get not wanting to come for moral reasons, but you’ll be fine visiting.

I don’t want to downplay the things that are happening, but the chances of them affecting you are minuscule. I don’t feel any less safe than usual personally

i’ve been sent an email asking me to head over to Greenland - something about the government needing someone who is an expert in one-to-one combat???
But I thought police had banned you from stepping foot on Danish soil? That’s why you couldn’t come to my birthday party in Copenhagen?

It's the other main option, yes, and I love Canada, but if I'm going to miss half the summer, I wanted somewhere a bit warmer to be honest...
West coast of Canada can get some nice high temperatures. One time I was there, we were sat out in the sun at the start of September and it was toasty.

Toronto's cold and wet, a lot of places higher up are snow-ridden but, hey, with climate change, everything's a spin of the wheel, eh?
