I was chaperoning a teen group, and I was heartened to here that at their schools (suburban and mostly rich), at least half of the students walked out to protest ICE on Friday
 
You would think the slide into authoritarianism would be enough to unite the country, but there seems to be an awful lof of denial, delusion and doubling-down by MAGA on social media.

There was a clip a while back where a guy was challenging his MAGA parents on what their threshold would be to not support Trump, and it got really unhinged, in the end the guy asked his dad if he would support Trump if his son was imprisoned or deported, and the father said something along the lines of "there would be a good reason for it if Trump did it".

There's a serious brainwash side effect to racists who find a leader who will promise them the dream of a whiter country. There is no end in sight for me, and it's coming to the UK very soon.
 
When George Floyd was murdered by actual trained police officers, those officers were suspended, then fired and prosecuted. WTF is happening to these untrained thugs?

Those rules are long dead in America. The cabinet have come out in force to say "the facts are evolving" which means "we'll keep saying nothing until we've found something else horrific for you to talk about, which should only take about 24 hours"

Reform’s polling is starting to drop as events in America escalate. The UK craves a far-right government but Reform sucking up to and imitating the playbook in the US is not the right tactic. If you want a violent fascist regime you have to pretend that that’s NOT what you’re planning until at least you get elected. I don’t think your average Tracy from Basingstoke wants political opponents assassinated in the street as much as your average Tyler from Bum Fuck, Alabama.

I think Tracy from Basingstoke will convince herself of anything as long as it means the person who supports deporting brown people gets into power.
 
I think there would be a good chance of the King dissolving parliament if a prime minister reacted to extrajudicial executions the same way Trump did, if parliament itself didn't revolt.
 
I also think that Farage will soften his stance in the election run up, until he's elected. He has a history of saying one thing before a vote and then doing or saying the complete opposite after he's won. He's already starting denying loads of his past rhetoric in interviews. What's frustrating, much like they did in the US elections, is the journalists are not PRESSING him on his lies. He knows how to deny and pivot because that's also part of the Trump playbook. He's seen it work, it's working for him now, and he'll follow the same script once he's elected.

The left are so fucking naive. Brown > Cameron > Corbyn > Johnson > Starmer > Farage. Mistake, repeat, rinse. The left are as much to blame for the dickheads that end up in power as the people who vote for them. I'm sick of the whole sorry lot!

I hadn't considered that, and that could be a useful plot twist. Although the way Charles rolled out the red carpet for Trump AFTER he'd already caused a lot of carnage isn't very encouraging.
 
I think we’ve tried to maintain normal diplomatic relations with a historic ally, in spite of their actions that go against the traditional order. Keir’s only chance of survival is to stand up to and reject the behaviour of this rogue state, but he still thinks he can play nicely with this maniac when he needs to swiftly declare his allegiance to our European neighbours and pivot our trade to China. The US is a lost cause at this point and it’s fruitless to continue humouring them.
 
He might be sticking to his guns after he got a lot of positive traction on being the elder statesmen who knows how to deal with difficult allies on the international stage. Trump is way more unhinged and gone way further into his Project 2025 pocketbook now, so I agree he needs to show a backbone. I imagine he doesn't want to be the one to go first or risk going alone. What I don't understand is why the European powers don't put their heads together and do it together. Maybe they're concerned a significant show of (verbal) force would really trigger Trump to do something stupid. They're already clearly sick of his Tarriff card every time he throws a tantrum. Who knows what he'd do if Europe decided to send him to bed with no supper.
 
Maybe the UK/Europe should limit Americans ability to visit in some way. Rich Americans love going to Europe so that would actually hurt
 
I’d have initiated a full trade embargo the second he threatened to invade EU territory but then I’m a bitch who lives for DRAMA!
