Thoughts on Oasis

It is, of course, a full stadium tour. 4 nights at Wembley. Plenty of gaps for extra dates tho'.
 
Oh dear. This will sell out in minutes, and I expect tickets will be astronomical too.
 
Well, I have a friend who will be clamouring for tickets. Good for him. I do remember when they split up around the same time MJ died and he kept insisting it was just as devastating for him :bad:
 
I do like a furore over tickets to these things but Oasis just do not excite me. Sorry, not sorry.
 
I am surprised they aren’t doing pre sales and teaming up with energy companies and other big corporations to release codes and capitalise on making as much moolah as possible.
 
Although I personally don’t think the full tour will happen. Punch up after night 3.
 
I can imagine the atmosphere at these gigs would be absolutely electric

But ultimately the risk of CAR CRASH / mid-tour cancellation is way too high for me to part with the ridiculous amounts of money they will demand.

I don’t think anyone is arguing that they aren’t huge. Regardless if you liked them or not everyone loved the 90’s and the band have a huge load of nostalgia attached even if they didn’t tickle your personal pickle.

Yep. Most of us are firmly in the “loved the first 2 albums and a little bit of the later stuff” camp.

I actually had tickets to Knebworth 1996 (well my friend’s mum had bought them all), but because I could only afford one summer concert, I had to give it up because I wanted to see Bryan Adams more. Still no regrets 🤓
 
Bryan Adams, unfashionable as he is, is one of the best live shows I've seen. His voice was actually 10 times more powerful live than on record.
 
I would go if it wasn't such a big crowd of people and also everyone behaved themselves while there.

Nah. Too much coin involved. Even if they only ever see each other on stage, this will happen.
 
I wouldn't go, but I'm sure it will be electric. The crowd will do the singing for most of the songs from the first two albums. And I threw on a playlist this morning and I know a fair few singles from the later albums, so as long as they follow the Halliwell-Horner principle and play the hits, the whole thing will be a roaring success.

It's funny - everyone agrees Blur were the better band, with the better back cat. But Blur could never stir the soul of the nation quite like Oasis.
 
Interesting that Blur have a whole reunion concert film out now about the “Road to Wembley”. That Wembley concert last year was papering and offering freebies to fill the place up from 3-4 weeks before it happened.
 
If you were alive at the time in the UK, you WILL have an opinion on Oasis. You WILL know the big hits, whether you like them or not.

For a band that ran out of quality control by album three, they really made a mark like few others. They led a cultural movement, that really felt like a happier, less scary time.

I'm not remotely surprised this has exploded the way it has. My FB and surprisingly my WhatsApp is full of Oasis chat. Twitter is of course more cynical and I don't care for the others.

That all being said I won't be going unless a ticket lands in my hand. Although I can picture myself wailing along to Live Forever like the last 30 years never happened.
 
I was going to do a quiz round on their five UK best-sellers this week, but I decided to change it to most streamed instead because the most recent sales estimates I could find skewed so far away from the songs that they’re actually remembered for.

I mean who on earth would cite D'you know what I mean as top 5 Oasis bestseller?

They were not unlike the Spice Girls in that regard. Two albums full of bangers, but beyond that, so, so much more important culturally. The difference is that the legacy of the Spice Girls is that girls and gays felt more empowered, and basically made the UK more fabulous. Whereas Oasis left a generation of bad hair and turgid white nostalgia in their wake.
 
do people (outside of each band's core fanbase) consider Blur to have a stronger back cat? as a singles act surely Blur's singles had nothing like the impact Oasis' bigger hits did and haven't endured in the same way?

Blur were far more innovative, Oasis were a bit more one note. But that's probably served them better legacy wise in terms of big hits.

It's exactly that - Oasis had a sound, Blur were much harder to pin down and the audiences for their records don't always mix - there's a fans of Song 2 Blur who couldn't give a flying one about Parklife Blur.

Yeah, the second show didn't sell out - they offered £5 tickets for NHS staff for one thing.
 
Without wanting to (i.e. very much wanting to) reduce both bands to the fuckability of their front men, I would have said Damon then, but Liam now.

There’s nothing wrong with Be Here Now that couldn’t have been fixed by them being told to make it 15 minutes shorter. Unfortunately, they had just reached the point in their career where no one could tell them that.
