Good morning! I'm actually having quite a productive one so far, which is nice - yesterday ended up being a bit of a write off :argh:

I actually looked this up the other day on hearing Lana Del Rey pronounce the "S" in Arkansas which really confused me.

APPARENTLY the -saw pronunciation is because it comes from French pronunciation and is named after the Akansas tribe, whereas Kansas comes from the Kansas river (via the Kansa tribe - which are related to the Akansa) and uses the English pronunciation hence the S.


HOWEVER the -saw and -sas pronunciations were both floating around in the 1800s before Arkansas standardised the -saw ending - possibly to differentiate themselves further from Kansas.
 
Going over for coffee at my mates in a mo. Pleasing. Although she probably won't have coffee, so I'll make do with water.

I'm actually going over to nick some of her teacher training books and get some tomato plants. I used to keep a jar of coffee over there, God knows if it's still there!
 
Yeah it's WheelClare. The lack of coffee has always been a point of contention when I wake up there on a Saturday morning.
 
I don't have coffee because I don't drink the stuff. There's tea! I hope tea's fine.
 
I don't drink tea (bar the odd green tea), but I always have tea bags!

If they wanted to differentiate themselves from Kansas they should've just changed the spelling!
 
I do usually have coffee for my parents or sister if they are staying, but that hasn't been an option for the last year. Another issue is that I have my tea black, so I'm frequently not going to have milk to go in the hot drink either.

It DOES discourage people from asking to stay following a night out so that I don't have to deal with them in the morning.
