TV Ratings 2024

The Neighbours figure, though impressive, is inflated by the fact that it combines both showings on the same day. Those afternoon broadcasts would be contributed at least 1-2 million to the overall figure.

Is it not the biggest peaks of the year 1990 rather than this week in 1990?

It's the Sunday night pensioner drama slot. Where The Heart Is, Wild At Heart and The Royal were similar, now Call The Midwife.

Apparently a peak of 18.8m in 1995 according to Wikipedia.

The last series (31st!) in 2010 pulled in 4m+.

Barb, the industry’s standard for understanding what people watch, has released data from its Establishment Survey showing that 20m UK homes (68.7%) had access to a subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) service in Q2 2024. This is a slight increase from 19.5m UK homes (67.9%) in Q1, and the first time more than 20m UK homes report having access to an SVOD service.

Barb has again shared an advertising tier estimate for Netflix, alongside a first figure for those with access to the Disney+ ad tier.

The number of UK homes on the Netflix ad tier continues to build, reaching 2.78m (9.5%) from 2.12m (7.4%) in Q1. The Disney+ ad tier, in its eighth month by the end of Q2, averaged in 820k homes across the quarter.

Netflix: 17.1m UK homes (58.6%) had access to Netflix in Q2 2024 up from 16.7m (58%) in Q1.

Amazon Prime Video: 13.7m UK homes (46.7%) had access to Amazon Prime Video in Q2 up from 13m (45.3%) in Q1.

Disney+: 7.6m UK homes (26.1%) had access to Disney+ in Q2 flat compared to Q1.

Apple TV+: 2.4m UK homes (8.3%) had access to Apple TV+ in Q2 flat compared to Q1.

Paramount+: 2.8m UK homes (9.7%) had access to Paramount+ in Q2 up from 2.6m (9.1%) in Q1.

Discovery+: 3.2m UK homes (11.1%) had access to Discovery+ in Q2, up fractionally from 3.1m (10.9%) in Q1.

NOW: 1.98m UK homes (6.8%) had access to NOW in Q2, up from 1.82m (6.3%) in Q1.
 
Was quite surprised by only 13.7 million UK homes having Amazon Prime, although I suppose the implication of that percentage is that that works out as probably about 30 million people overall having access, which sounds about right.

I asked a 20 year old guy the other day if he watched 'terrestrial TV' and his response was... 'is that the News? because I watch that once a day' I then said I meant like channel 1,2,3,4 and 5, he said OH like SKY TV?

The mind boggles, and things have really changed in such a short amount of time.

My almost 22 year old, and 18 year year old children would know what channels 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 were but I wouldn’t say they would actively seek them out very often. My daughter loves a good bit of reality tv and my son doesn’t generally watch anything on terrestrial tv other than sport.
 
I literally don't even HAVE terrestrial tv channels. I watch everything on apps on my tv.

And I find it astonishing that people still 'flick through channels' to see what's on. Like... why does anyone care what is on right now?!? You can watch anything!

Oh I am still very fond of my tv guide on my Sky Q box.

It very much depends what mood I'm in. We have everything programmed in to Sky+, and then watch what we feel like that evening. I don't even know when any shows are on, as I never check schedules.

But after Mr L has gone to bed, I do usually flick through then to find something to watch for an hour or so. Again, it's the paradox of choice. I find it too hard to make a decision when I could watch pretty much anything, and want it presented to me. Ideally something about engineering with the lovely Rob Bell, who I'd love to do filthy things with.

However, increasingly I find that rather than flicking through the channels, I'm browsing YouTube and watching something about World War III, 101 Geography Facts You Did Not Know or TurdTowns Gloucestershire anyway.
 
I have Sky, Netflix, Amazon prime, Disney plus, and Apple TV but I rarely watch any of them other than what I record on the tv guide on the Sky box. I’m assuming this is probably an age thing,
 
I don't flick through the channels to find something to watch. I do still buy a TV guide magazine, as I find it easier to set/check my Sky recordings that way. To be fair I listen to two TV podcasts every week, and read about it plenty on the internet, I should know very well what is available on the telly when.

Looking at the Masterchef numbers I do wonder why ITV bothered scheduling THE EXACT SAME SHOW against it?

Only Connect at 18th in the ratings chart seems astonishing to me - has it been in the top 20 regularly before?
 
I wouldn't say regularly, but it's certainly skirted the bottom of the chart before.
 
Season 1 seemed to get around 5 million so this should do similar I would have thought. :disco:
