They don’t at all. Having tried to blame the French authorities for the failures on Friday for allegedly not turning up to work at Dover (the French border is at Dover and vice-versa) it transpired that Port of Dover had offered to pay over £30m to fund additional French passport booths in order to speed up processing only for the UK authority to reject the offer. Where are Truss and Sunak in all of this?

There is a dissonance whereby those who voted for Brexit and still support it (and let’s be clear, millions no longer do, the polling shows it loud and clear) are indignant when our neighbours impose the controls which apply to every other third country.

I feel so exhausted by the reluctance of anybody in the UK political mainstream to advocate a change of approach and cooperating with the EU, even if we remain a third country. After elections we hear about the victor governing for all, regardless of how they have voted. When have we ever heard that said about Brexit?

I’m not expecting it to be reversed, but we don’t need to be inside the EU to be able to cooperate. Right now we have a government which will literally allow the UK to cut off its nose to spite its face cos ‘you know, we took back control’. We are in desperate need of some adults.
