I’ve only just seen this and I honesty have to say that this is the first time I’ve seen him look genuinely vulnerable. Not in terms of performance because that’s been shocking for a long time… but actually exposed as a fraud. Sky are absolutely hammering here and he absolutely nothing to fucking say except of his suggestion that the media and public are focusing on the wrong things (lies/sleaze/hypocrosy) rather than getting the booster

It’s a good question @AleXmas - if North Shropshire is anything to by (and I appreciate there were unique circumstances there) then it is cutting through to the small c / routine Tory voter. Those are people like my parents - not ideological but always generally voted Conservative and in a rural seat very similar to NS. I doubt that they will ever vote Conservative again.

And every single point he makes is absolute bollocks. Fastest growing economy? We're growing to a point lower than we were before Covid. Every other country has already reached this point because they haven't also been butchered by Brexit.
The booster rollout is also lower than in a lot of other countries (Germany hit a record for boosters this week) and, lest we forget, has ABSOLUTELY FUCK ALL to do with him. It's organised and administered by the NHS, he's just the dickhead who put them under unnecessary strain at the weekend with a bullshit press conference in a vain effort to change headlines.
He does look weak and vulnerable now. Before, he could hide behind Brexit but that bubble has truly burst. He's exposed, at his lowest ebb and has literally NOTHING left in reserve to get people back onside.

Also not to be a 'Starmer out' person as I think he's handled things pretty well recently, but isn't any Labour increase in these polls just down to Tory support eroding so could easily disappear once Boris is gone/the parties are no longer a news story? I'm not saying it isn't welcome, I'm just not convinced it means very much

We can all be thankful that team Starmer have learned the correct response to the Tories imploding is to just sit there and let it happen, and NOT to inexplicably brief the press that Angela Rayner was throwing secret raves in her local old folks' home throughout the pandemic.

Probably temporarily because there's always a new leader boost, but crucially the feedback from North Shropshire is that all of this stuff around sleaze, Paterson and the like is starting to bleed into the Tory brand, rather than being contained to just Boris himself.

Also the other part of it is that basically every viable replacement for Boris is absolutely dead-set on taking the Tories back to Thatcherism, reducing spending and spending cuts without Boris pushing for higher spending. There's ultimately a reason Boris pushed for that higher spending in the first place and it's that that pitch doesn't really work anymore post-Brexit...

But who will this be? Truss and Raab are national laughing stocks and Sunak isn't exactly popular in any sector which has been affected by lockdown. No other Tory has the cult of personality surrounding them that Johnson did, so I can't see there being any marked surge for whoever becomes the new twat in chief.

I really don´t think it will be Truss, she´s way too to prone to fuck ups and surely even the Tories realize that Patel is insane. Wasn´t she(along with Rees Mogg) told during the last campaign to keep her mouth shut? There´s a big risk of her being electorally toxic.
I lean towards Sunak. The Tories are going to want someone who at least appears to be competent. I go back on forth on how successful he would be. I think he´d go down very well with a lot of traditional Tory voters that have been turned off by Johnson, but I could also see him struggling massively with the newly acquired northern seats. I´m also pretty surely all of those business owners being screwed over by him not loosening the purse strings during this bout of covid aren´t going to forget.
