Actually let’s be honest it was probably some 6th former whose Mum edits the style section.
 
I know she’s probably evil but the D@ily Mail running a story about his out of work waitress daughter was a bit NASTY.
 
I think that one's a bit unfair - it was a good 9 months before the truth about Savile came out and loads of people made tributes. Let's focus on how dangerously stupid and blinkered she is now.
 
You would think the one thing they would have thought ‘oh let’s just not bother’ is piping up about imperial measures. It’s been years and literally nobody cares anymore.

It probably is still fair criticise her for not being smart enough to go back and delete her Savile tribute after he turned out to be a massive nonce.

I remember reading a DS (I think) post from about 2004 which said ‘there’ll be a ton of stories come out about him the second he dies’.

My Dad briefly objected to Gary Glitter being arrested as well, since ‘we all knew what he was getting up to back then and nothing ever came of it’.
 
No wonder Johnson’s not resigned yet, there’s no way they’d risk calls for an election. I really don’t see a new leader doing much to remedy this, either. They literally have nobody the public would rally behind.
 
So the left wing coalition in this country, even without SNP, is 57%. Less than a third of people currently want a Tory government and yet they are in power with a huge majority.

There’s something really fucked up about that.

well, democracy is that you're elected and you get four years and you don't leave government just because your approval ratings are in the dirt mid-term. I'm not sure that is fucked up.

the Tory right giving rise to hardcore libertarianism is probably inevitable but also feels like the single most dangerous thing that could happen to politics in the UK. that's what leads to the kind of unbridgeable social/ideological divide and political turf wars that have torn the USA apart. we honestly just need them OUT before they do irreparable damage to this country.

At the last election 60% of people didn't vote for the Tories though (they were only 2.4% ahead of Labour), yet they get an insane majority because of first past the post. It really is fucked up.

The 2015 election though, which gave David Cameron a majority, really is the worst example of FPTP giving a horrendous result given how people voted.

 
Yes, it is fucked up, but for the reason Zen says. PR isn't designed to counteract unpopular governments mid term, but it does kind of protect against it.
 
ah. yeah, PR is of course fucked up but neither the Tories nor Labour stand to gain from changing the system, so... as with other European countries, coalitions are our best/only hope.
 
I also wouldn't assume that all those Lib Dem voters would be Labour rather than Conservative. In the southwest at least I think a significant chunk would be horrified at being seen as left wing or more associated with Labour rather the Tories.
 
That’s odd. Depending on the period LD have been more left wing or less left (moderate) than Labour so voting LD and then having Tory as your second choice over Labour is utterly bizarre and suggests that people don’t know what they’re voting for

Yes definitely where I am is wall to wall Tory and they would consider lib dem but nevaahhh labour
 
There was talk of Boris Johnson's constituency being vulnerable before the 2019 election too. As delicious as it would be, I'll believe it when I see it.
