I don't know if this is who you mean, but Jerry Fuchs was quite unlucky.

"Early in the morning on November 8, 2009, Fuchs was caught in a broken elevator in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York City. When assistance arrived and the doors were pried open, he attempted to jump out of the elevator car. Upon landing, his hood caught on something, pulling him off balance, and he accidentally fell to his death down the elevator shaft."

No he was in a British indie/ rock band. They weren't mainstream but they had charted. It was odd, because he basically FELL IN THE STREET AND DIED.
 
Thingy from Space was a smackhead. That's what really killed him.
 
"Dead Britpop drummers" is bringing up more results than I'd imagined but Space Dude is in the only person who fits the bill.
 
There's the lad out of Northern Uproar who leaned out a car window and was decapitated by a passing HGV. That were grim.
 
Terry Kath (lead singer of Chicago). Was messing around with an unloaded (or so he thought) gun at a party, ended up shooting himself as there was 1 bullet left.

Vic Morrow, father of Jennifer Jason Leigh. Who was filming a scene for The Twilight Zone movie where he was running away from a helicopter with two young child actors. The heat from the pyrotechnics caused the rotator blades to buckle and decapitated all three. GRIM.

John Landis should've been sent down for this, partly because it was blatantly his fault but also because if he was in prison his son Max would've never been conceived.
 
Probably more obscure than most, but 1920s dancer Isadora Duncan was strangled by the silk scarf she was wearing getting tangled in the rear wheel of the open top car she was travelling in.
 
JANE DORNACKER - former member of The Tubes (they had some modest chart success in UK and US in late 70s, early 80s).

She changed career paths to a traffic news reporter in the late 80s. They flew her on a small helicopter during one segment in 1988 and the helicopter crash audio was broadcast live. It is TERRIFYING. The most unlucky part of it was that she SURVIVED A HELICOPTER CRASH A FEW MONTHS PRIOR... and the network decided to fly her on one again, which resulted in her fatality :manson:

While I'm sure this is the reason they don't have reporters flying on news helicopters anymore, it did seem rather pointless in the first place.

The shift in tone in her voice from slight panic/slurred speech to sheer terror is truly disturbing and I regret re-watching but I'm going to post it anyway:

I feel like this is one of those where she's more famous now for her death than her life.
