How illegal is it for an employer to furlough someone, but then make them work 2 hours a day and he then tops up their pay to 100%?

Not my employer fyi.
 
Completely. You cannot work at all if you're furloughed. I even read that they mustn't even expect you to read emails etc

Yes, but have a discussion first, surely!? Rather than just being cunty and potentially putting a business out of business (and no doubt losing her own income!)
 
Yeah I suggest she tells her boss she doesn't feel comfortable with the arrangement, and hope they understand. Make sure this is in writing, an e-mail, not over the phone. If he refuses the request, or treats her unfairly because of her refusal, then it becomes an issue for HMRC.

Yep I've told her to do that first. But apparently he's a total arsehole. I gave 3 options, talk to him, report him, do nothing and just moan about it and get more annoyed.

I had a rather wonderful dish of TAGLIATELLE CON RAPE last night
 
So my next-door neighbours are having their roof redone this weekend and they came round this morning and told me about it and asked whether I wanted mine done at the same time, said it'd only be £3000 because it's their friend doing it. Of course I said yes because the last quote I had years ago was £7000 and I gave them my number so the roofer could ring me. Turns out he's related to them and seemed a bit put-out that they'd already told me three grand because that's mates rates for them for cash but he agreed to do it for that anyway and he'll accept a bank transfer. :D

There's now scaffolding half-way round the downstairs of my house. The dog keeps howling at it and I've no idea how to stop him.

I got an email from an ex-client of ours asking me to restart their payroll scheme after they closed it in February and sacked us off. He wants to rehire the staff that they finished and put them on furlough. They still owe us over £2000 for work we've done over the last three years and they've never paid a penny of it (they got away with it because their parents have several companies with us so the boss had been a bit lax about chasing them up aggressively). He finished off his email saying that he feels a moral responsibility to help out his ex-staff who are all short of money. I forwarded the email to my boss (she says I'm too blunt about stuff like this so prefers to reply herself) with the note "maybe you should ask whether he feels he has a moral responsibility to pay our outstanding bills before asking us to do another shit-ton of work for him".
