This honestly doesn't seem like a great system. 16 is too young to decide your future

You don't decide it really till the next year when you're applying to University. Your course doesn't normally require specific subjects but they care more about your grades.

That said, I still think the University applications are done too early, and I'd prefer an American-style system where you pick and choose how you get your points. I picked the wrong degree and felt very stuck in it.

I always find it odd how few subjects the English do in their last years. I sat 9 highers and passed 8 of them.
 
General Studies is the study of just about everything. My teachers decided it was basically unteachable because they could never guess what the questions might be about.

The exams ended up just being a broad exercise in making rational arguments for both sides of a debate.

I didn't attend classes. I got an A.

And also, yeah, the point of not knowing what you want to do later in life, having a wider range of qualifications seems more sensible than focusing on a few at 16

Looking at my list of AP classes, I literally use none of them at work. Not that I regret them, they’re all things that are worthwhile to know
 
aren’t some of the younger Moopers (not sure how young) from the AS Level years? I gather you do more AS levels in year 12(?) and keep some of those for year 13?

German

But the system over here is slightly different. Still that's the closest equivalent.
 
I always hated English in school (mainly because our GCSE teacher was a horrid bitch)

I *think* we got an AS level in all three subjects in Year 12 and then the full A-Level in Year 13.

Oh so you just did 3 courses and got an AS and an A-level for them?

Don’t you remember, it was only about 2 years ago

And a City & Guilds in Radio Journalism, which was forced upon us to make up study hours, since the majority of the year were using the time to retake their Maths GCSE.

Mine was the year before those AS levels were started.

I knew DC is something medical so you're not a surprise.

RJN I was sure was something humanities-based.

Apoca makes sense as being down the middle.

Alex and Maths is a nice surprise.
 
I did English Lit, History and French. Did English Lit and History as two of my three first year uni subjects. Replaced history after semester 1 and dropped English Lit after year one to do a major/minor.
 
Business studies and English literature.

I don't feel like either have benefited me in life.
 
Nothing (other than English and German, I guess) would have prepared me for the work I do now.

Nothing would've taught me a thing about the entire Adobe Suite, Marketing or working in any digital landscape; and it's not like there were any proper university courses either, so I went with something I found interesting rather than something I'm GOOD AT. :zombie:

Appearances can be deceiving - you have to take German and Maths A-Levels over here. I would have swapped Maths for Spanish or Political Science in a heartbeat if I had the choice.

Of course, I basically went on to study Physics at university cause I was young and dumb. :disco:

I always joke that my background in English Literature (which was also my degree) qualified me for everything and nothing at the same time, but I did start my career as a copywriter and I still work broadly in that field, so I guess it all ties together.

I also did Psychology for AS which I would have done at A level but we only had the option to do it at AS level. Looking back I have NO idea why I chose Biology :D

That is what I ended up doing in university. In high school, I wasn't sure what career I wanted, but I knew that I was good at math and geography (and not great at writing) so I. chose based on that
