What A Levels did you study?

From 16-18 if you stay in education you choose 3-4 subjects to specialise in and drop the others. These are your A Levels.

Then at 18+ you generally go on to university to just study one thing. Or enter the workforce/an apprenticeship.

I guess this basically means what ”program” you took during highschool? We had core subjects that all high school students have to take and then a ”program” specialising in something.

I did natural science despite always being into the humanities a lot more. All the ”free choice” courses we could do I did languages, geography and ”EU science”. My thesis subject was about whether Sweden should join the eurozone or not.
 
Are Key Skills still a thing? They gave me UCAS points equivalent to an A at AS level.

My utter indecisiveness led me to a French and Maths degree !
 
I do wonder how thing had panned out if I hadnt been forced into the a-levels I took.
 
I remember a friend at college did Communication Studies. She had a spare ticket on their class “trip” and we all sat in the audience of the Channel 5 Jack Docherty Show. I have no idea how that was relevant to the course.
 
My big regret at the time was doing stupid PSYCHOLOGY instead of CLASSICS, but then I wouldn't have been able to vote in this poll so it all worked out.

Only really took English for a bit of variety, but I soon came to resent having to write essays and bunked off a fair few lessons. Still got an A though 💅 and a lifelong love of Jane Austen and hatred of Thomas Hardy

I couldn't do A-Levels because my parents couldn't afford to pay for tuition (Student Finance hadn't been invented yet) so I joined a YTS scheme which allowed me to go to technical college to get a BTEC National Certificate in Science (used to be called a ONC). I was "paid" £27.30 for every week I attended college plus £3 a week for bus fares but I had to spend all of the holidays doing work-experience in laboratories instead of relaxing and getting drunk.

I can sew equally well by hand or sewing machine, I used to love doing cross-stitch. Spent the whole of my pregnancy doing a massive one for the new baby's bedroom, finished it before she was born then discovered how expensive it was to have it professionally stretched and framed so it's just been folded up in a box in the loft for thirty years.

The only thing I can't do nowadays is thread a needle without the aid of a needle threader because I'm old.

I dropped art as soon as it was possible, maybe my life could have been different, if only I hadn’t been hopeless at it. I went to an all boys school and our art teacher was Mrs Fox who was something of a controversial figure with some parents due to her plunging necklines and micro leather mini skirts. Her classes were exceptionally popular though.

Despite my stellar gay GCSEs in Expressive Arts and Food Technology, I ended up doing English Language, Biology, History - but I only did History because of my STUPID DAD discounting Psychology as Not A Proper Subject. USELESS.
 
Also shout out to all the gurls who did English Language instead of reading someone else’s boring old tome and getting a boner for syntax xxx
 
Although I love history (FORUM NOW!) I found the A-Level pretty dull. A detailed look at the Moroccan Crisis' is no-one's idea of scintillating historical discovery.

YES - he was of the Maths, Physics, Further Maths brigade and can only communicate by playing a guitar or telling you what he knows about esoteric subjects. I left him a pamphlet on autism once and he didn’t find it very funny :D

With retrospect I regret not taking the Tudor module, which I find infinitely more interesting and would not have met Sebastian Flyte.

I think I did the rise of the USSR and Maggie vs the miners. Was I radicalised in the classroom? Who can say.
