It’s way more about a tournament seen as a dealbreaker in “breaking” football in the US opening without one of its biggest stars would be seen as a disaster.
But every World Cup is seen as breaking football in the US. America goes absolutely crazy for the World Cup every time, and as soon as it’s over they forget all about it. It’s been that way for years. They even had their own World Cup not that long ago. Don’t see it changing again.
