World Cup 2026

There’s ALWAYS refereeing issues. But no, it’s doesn’t mean it’s a conspiracy. The corruption goes a lot deeper than throwing an individual match. I don’t think they give a fuck who wins. They already got paid.

I think I should revisit my rant(s) from the other day(s) as I’ve been ruminating. My whole point is not to suggest that there is absolutely nothing dodgy going on anywhere. I think I tried to make that clear by my saying I didn’t agree with the decisions, but perhaps not quite in the right way.

But what I AM trying to say is nowadays, everything is a conspiracy, everything has a clickbait social media campaign behind it and people just swallow it. What that does is for those to be true is dismiss a whole system of people as corrupt and who work/have worked outside of FIFA in ethics and integrity roles, remember as corrupt. Which is just not true. Same as with refereeing. And working in the industry (and not just football), the structural and ethical side of things is something I DO know about.

I don’t want to get into the red card discussion. BUT :D Did I agree with it? No. Do I believe Trump phoned Gianni? Absolutely! But would Trump try and overplay what happened for his own benefit? Yes. Is there an independent committee involved? Yes. I’m not saying it definitely wasn’t dodgy- I obviously couldn’t know- but what I’m saying is that it’s not as simple as “Infantino and Trump are mates, it’s all RIGGED!” every fucking time. We question Trump’s storytelling all the time…until it suits us not to.

Hold them to account, call shit out, but stop being fed lines by a media that operates solely to rile you.

Does that make a bit more sense?

I also think “money” is an interesting concept. There’s more money in FIFA than anyone could ever imagine. They’re not taking bribes on any sort of organisational level because no one could afford them :D

Power, well, maybe that’s a different conversation…

I don't rely on media to tell me things I saw with my own eyes.
because no one could afford them :D
Qatar could, and did..
It's just disgruntled fans unhappy with the outcome of that AvE match.
Stop with the nonsense. I don't care for Egypt. I saw a pattern and im calling it out.

Messi brings the views, the contracts, the iconography and the $$s. AND is a personal favorite of Fifa's president. They give a fuck.

Was there a pattern in the terrible refereeing of the France/Paraguay match which seemingly heavily favoured the losing team?

Any conspiracy theory about refereeing is just complete bullshit.

but is it a question of whether corruption is going on anywhere/somewhere? it's clearly happening right at the very top. it's not even hidden. I don't understand why you think anyone who thinks that has just been fed a line by social media?

I don't read about football on social media. plenty of serious mainstream media have reported on the corruption at FIFA. Sepp Blatter went through the courts for his part in it. Infantino is far more nakedly corrupt. there's just no question that it's happening. it's not in the realm of social media conspiracy theory!

because the major refereeing decisions in that match were entirely correct.
Wrong. Salah should have been given a penalty for the same reason Egypt's second goal was disqualified. The referee was right there and pretended to see nothing.

DUH. Proving my point about trying to clear out competition for Argentina. Anyway I'll stop here and let future 'bad refereeing' in this tournament prove my point.

It proves nothing.

I’m not going here with you again as I don’t have the mental capacity to do so, but, put simply, it’s the penultimate line. “There’s just no question that it’s happening”.

That just can’t be true. It isn’t an absolute. It’s impossible for anyone outside of the situation itself to say that.

(And notice I also said “media”, not “social media” at the end of that post, and which you quoted)

The Trump getting a red card suspension overturned was such a massive example of cut and dry corruption that it even permeated my almost entirely footballless bubble :D

Losing your only World Cup penalty shoot out to England is not a good omen.

I can't believe that FIFA have rigged it for Argentina to reach the semi finals by making both of these teams fucking shocking.

I had the match on record because I was doing something beforehand, and the recording ran out the second it got to penalties. Ffs.

For the record: the red card overturning was fucking awful.

Do i believe it was Trump what did it? Actually, I don't. Not entirely, anyway. FIFA have recent history of bending those rules to suit what's best for them (see: Ronaldo's red before the tournament)

FIFA's corruption largely is because of its own greed, and desire to make it spectacle by having the best players on show.

But in the end the US striker didn't turn up for the game anyway :D

Yeah, but wasn’t it just a French refereeing set up for the Argentina match? :D

“I was just COMING OUT of the goal in solidarity”, he remarked.

8 games left. :(

This is absolutely insane with me. It feels like yesterday I was staring down the barrel of 100+ matches and we’re here. It’s gone so quickly in so many ways.

I mean, I also can’t wait to go home, but…

predictions

France v Morocco - France through
Spain v Belgium - Belgium through
England v Norway - England through
Switzerland v Argentina - Argentina through

definitely feeling like Spain v Belgium could be the shocker.
