Mr Kate has had no symptoms at all and he spent the weekend here just before mine started. Weird indeed.

Yeah, that's probably what they're going for seeing how people have been behaving during the days where it has been sunny and warm. However I'm not sure people going out all at the same time is a good idea indeed...
 
I've got something from the government about it as well. I hope it's not a free sample.
 
74 deaths in Scotland since yesterday, so I am assuming the UK numbers are going to be astronomical today. :(
 
The weekends have been under-reported so far - there's no reason to think this week will be any different. :(
 
there's a local statue of the Nile and his children and there's someone who takes good care of them. in winter they wear little elf hats and scarfs, and now they've been given masks. I thought it was very cute at least :shy:

The inflexibility of employers is also causing this issue in other respects. Everyone is still heading out at the weekends and before or after work to get shopping as we normally would, which creates busyness and greater likelihood of transmission.

This rule will impact exactly as you say but may stop people flouting the rule to justify sunbathing and picnics as Kate suggests. Has the same been happening in Paris?

I'm still off work but from what I have heard, my place are being quite flexible about starting and finishing times, we are already on flexi starting between 8 and 10 and finishing between 4 and 6.30, and I think they have relaxed this even further, which is good.
 
It's also interesting that they are applying the rule only in Paris. I think this is a really strong example of where centralised decision-making in London may unjustifiably affect the rest of the country.

I imagine a decision to ban trips out for exercise and tighten the lockdown would be taken on the basis of evidence largely from London even though I don't think the issue is anywhere near as big a problem elsewhere. Certainly not where I am, anyway.

Yeah, i'm pretty lucky where I am as well. One of my colleagues were saying the other day that our culture is such that if we ask our manager if we can go to the supermarket mid-morning or afternoon to beat the crowds then people are usually fine about it.

i just imagine others aren't as lucky.
 
Calm down. It's just the weekend being added into Monday's score. That's why yesterday's was so low. It still isn't leaping up...
 
I thought it was said yesterday that the weekend had little effect on the figures? If that is the case then we should hopefully see a big slump tomorrow.

Some places don't report over the weekend (particularly Sunday), so they get added into Monday's toll, which gets reported today. That's what's been happening previously.

And yes, what Indie said is right- it's far from doubling every 3 days now, which is a big "success", as much as people dying can ever be called so.
 
I just saw this American modelling that said there would be 66000 deaths in the UK, which was about 3 times those in Italy, Spain and France. Can't figure out how they came to that conclusion but LET'S HOPE THEY'RE WRONG

That HAS to be bollocks if we're already flattening the curve. Which seemingly we are.
 
flattening the curve doesn't mean there won't be a second wave. in fact, it actively encourages it - most models predict a broadly similar number of people being infected, so it's about managing it over a prolonged period of time while they look for a vaccine to keep deaths down. if this first wave gets to 20k deaths (highly probable within around 6 weeks), I don't see 66k deaths being excessive? They would match or exceed that in the other countries mentioned by @Shirley too if this is how it plays out going into/after summer.
 
That 66K WAS just for the first wave, but I see it's been DEBUNKED now for using outdated stats about ICU beds and invasive ventilators
 
Someone on my Facebook has announced he's now convinced that the virus has leaked from a laboratory, like AIDS. :) *facepalm*
