This is my nightmare. I would probably have a panic attack if sat near him. Something about being trapped in the same space just sets me off.

From what I was told they actually had to go onto the train to identify where he was sat and who was around him, and I know the ticket office was closed because the staff there were the ones who dealt with him on the platform.

So my mum is my bubble as she lives alone, but then again she’s been in and out of her neighbour’s flat too which defeats the whole purpose.

My flatmate has been seeing a friend of hers who does not live alone and is a nurse, and technically our household should only be in a bubble with one single occupant household. The gov guidelines really assume that every multiple occupancy household is a family for some reason. Then again me and my mum have been going to my dad’s house and garden together - distancing in the garden and living room, but I won’t lie, I’ve hugged my dad too and we also went to a restaurant where there was no distancing.

Since my brother had a negative COVID test a few days after we saw him before he was admitted into care, I assume we’re all negative anyway. It’s not like we’re socialising with multiple strangers on a regular basis and I see going to the supermarket as a bigger risk than anything.

It's one third of the remaining wage, not one third of the total. The employer pays 33.3% of the wage for the time worked, leaving 66.67% of the wage upaid. The employer and the government then pay one third each of the 66.67%, which is 22.2% of the total wage each, meaning that the employee gets 77.7% of their wage if they worked full hours.
 
I just don't see why they have chosen this over a UBI, with a rise in taxes once we're in recovery. It is a much more flexible approach and will allow market forces to guide which businesses survive or die.
 
Trying to work out what that job support scheme could mean in relation to my already complicated employment situation and I feel like the subject of a maths exam question.

I presume because UBI has been suggested by other parties and heaven forbid they acknowledge other people’s ideas !

I imagine UBI is an ideological step too far for the Tories. How could they call benefit claimants scroungers and skivers when everyone is one?
 
So let’s say they’re working 70% of their regular hours, the employer will pay 1/3 of the remainder (10%) and the government will too, and the employee will get 90% overall. And the employee will be paying... 1.16x the usual rate(?) - basically 80% of their salary for 70% of the work

So what’s the probability that somebody is working 70% of the time, catches covid but then dies in a car crash ?

I can’t speak for the working 70% part, but I’m SURE BBC’s More or Less worked out the chance of someone catching COVID but dying in a traffic accident :D
 
OK so apparently they worked out the chance of someone who was recorded as a COVID death but actually being killed in a traffic accident is less than 1/4000

Indeed. Do I want a full lockdown, do I heck... I just fear it may be the only way to get things back under control... but it's worth a punt at something more useful in the middle than "shut the pubs at 10" first. But if we did, I'd never advocate for the NHS to just basically shut down and cancel things like cancer treatments like they did last time, that was downright CRIMINAL and if it was a decision made by someone who'd sworn the Hippocratic Oath then they need a word with themselves.

Heck I still never got the ultrasound I was going to get in March for the discomfort I felt (and still get) in the sort of bowel-ish region, luckily it's not painful (just uncomfortable sometimes) and I'm finding it hard enough to lose weight that if it IS anything to worry about then I'm not at death's door yet. But just shows how many people have been affected, potentially in a life threatening way, by that decision to put everything non covid related on hold while the nightingale hospitals sat empty.

It's the way it was done, not that we should've just let rip.

(It's also, while tragic, nowhere near the 40k that died of covid or the half a million that were forecast to if we'd done nothing)

What in the world goes through people's minds when they do something like that. Who knows how many on the train ended up infected. Guessing his prognosis is probably rather poor if he got to the point of coughing up blood, but I don't wish death on him... I hope he lives to learn a lesson and teach it to others.

Yep. I'm a bit of a sceptic of it, and think I'd use it more as a tool to help indicate whether I need to isolate than taking any notification as gospel (I think it gives a time and location so you could easily work out if you were dicing with Death in the pub at the time and should isolate, or minding your own business out in a field somewhere and happened to have a good bluetooth signal with someone and can assume it was a false positive). But keeping an open mind.

Me too! I think from an employee perspective it's that you lose a third of the pay for the hours you don't work..?

Currently we're shut on Fridays and making up hours by working overtime, having shorter lunch breaks and/or working a few hours from home. But I can already envisage that come November this will be seen as an opportunity to say you can no longer do that and will have to take a pay cut worth a third of Friday instead. Best brush up on the ol' finances.
