Relisten #3: Kylie Minogue & Impossible Princess - 21/10/20 19:00

can't believe people would want a SHORTER version of this song. wtf.

09 Confide In Me
09 Surrender
08 If I Was Your Lover
10 Where Is The Feeling

I don't know the single version actually

Put Yourself In My Place is so fucking lovely. One of her best covers. To think this was just two singles after Celebration.

I'd have a few certains but I'd have to do a deep dive for some deep cuts. Otherwise I might as well stick M People's Greatest Hits on.

M PEOPLE GREATEST HITS SYNC LISTEN NOW!

You might as well until the end of this album for that. :manson:

always listened to it on the album hun!

I mean it’s essentially Kylie’s Justify My Love.

It’s ok. I prefer the album version too.

The extended BIR remix however is the TITS. At on every point it almost turns into a PJ Harvey song.

Put Yourself In My Place is a really strong song for sure but it's such an outlier here sonically that it's kind of jarring. It sounds more mid 90s than the early 90s jazzy R&B of the three tracks before it - that ethereal whistle really anchors it in the more organic sounds that defined pop in the middle of that decade, especially in the UK.

It was #11 in both UK and Aus apparently which I guess is not bad, but maybe felt disappointing at the time?

Wonderful vocal performance.

Those last vocal runs into the fade of PYIMP get me every time. :(

It was released at Xmas. Above her were East 17, Mariah and Zig n Zag so it didn't do too bad.

Jimi Harry is Lenny Kravitz’s cousin BTW. Kylie was introduced to him after she shagged Lenny.

Well I think it goes entirely without saying that Dangerous Game is the absolute sultriest of gems.

Love the fact that it gets a bit MUSICAL THEATRE at times, but she always reins it in... just about. Until she goes FULL BANSHEE and starts MADLY SHRIEKING at the end :disco:

HOLD ME!!!

09 Confide In Me
09 Surrender
08 If I Was Your Lover
10 Where Is The Feeling
09 Put Yourself In My Place

06 Dangerous Game

Dangerous Game is a fan favourite. It’s nice. I think I prefer some of her other ballads though. The next one in fact.

there are moments, when I revisit this album and IP, that I can't help wondering what happened to the Kylie who was heavily invested in advancing her artistry, taking risks and pushing herself to new places musically, trying different things with her voice.

this is an utterly cracking album coming from a woman of 26 years old. yes she's been our fabulous pop princess for a good 20 years now and I'm grateful BUT I wonder what might've been if she'd done 2 or 3 albums of that and then got back to the business of trying new things...

The instrumentation is another aspect that obviously differentiates this album from the previous four.

I do love the closing part of Dangerous Game.

A mild comedown with Automatic Love, which still has some sublimely sultry melodies and a really rich groove. By far her most consistently high quality first half of a studio album.

09 Confide In Me
09 Surrender
08 If I Was Your Lover
10 Where Is The Feeling
09 Put Yourself In My Place
10 Dangerous Game
08 Automatic Love
