Also WHOLLY in agreement with @octophone that Jimmy Nail - Ain't No Doubt is a comedy/camp classic

Good episode though. Sade turning up for AN EXCLUSIVE, first Suede featuring Brett's very abusive behaviour towards that innocent microphone stand and Sleeping Satellite as well. The random Mike Oldfield moment was different

In like a loser on a Saturday night so watched the TOTP night in BBC2 live.

A bit disappointed at no mention of Eternal in either the Story Of or Biggest Hits show for either 1993 or 1994. Maybe they’re saving them for 1997?

We did see Stay in the Biggest Hits of 1993, didn't we?

Just watching Story of 94 now. I really did prefer it when they showed them just before they were about to start that year's weekly shows.

Ah, must have missed the full Big Hits of 93 then.

Big Hits of 1994 is interesting as they’ve seemingly gone back to a lot of miming, and it’s the bigger stars who you know can do it live doing it.
 
Quite a lot of Elastica on the Story of 94, especially considering they had the drummer and publicist.

I'm going to miss the live vocals when they are phased out.

They do feel a bit less special burning through them like this.

I suppose they think they can use them fir BBC2 now and repeat on BBC4 when the episodes get to that point. I hope they pause after 95.

That version of Baker Street was dismal. It was said that Gerry Rafferty earned 80k annually just from 'Baker Street'. Sadly, that money kept him in the lifestyle that killed him.

But if you thought about everything like that, what would you ever do?
 
I have no memory of "The Magic Friend" at all. Feels a bit "fifth single off the album".
 
The difference between Annie Lennox when she did the first appearance for Why and this one for Walking On Broken Glass is extraordinary: if she was acting meek and cowed in the former, then it was a bloody good act because she's so much more herself this time.
 
Also consigned to the memory bin - KWS's second hit. Not even coming back to me listening to it.

It was painful, wasn't it? :D

I can see why they broke through though, particularly at that time (although not with that song). As covered in The Story Of, the charts had become so dominated by anonymous dance acts that I can see why young girls and gays were so desperate to latch on to a pop act with personality. You can imagine Smash Hits being as relieved as fuck as well.

Well this is true; the pop industry was a bit shakey at this point and they were a necessity.

I hate Paul Weller so much it's unhealthy. Spawned some of the worst bands in history.
 
"What Kind Of Fool?" is OK but it's easy to see that things had to change otherwise she was heading for Butlins/panto.
