I feel like I must have been reading a spoof article, or I’ve had a stroke, but it appears the government are about to announce a scheme to send all asylum seekers to Rwanda.

It’s perfect - now they can blame immigrants for our aviation emissions.

As Twitter is saying, this is such a DEAD CAT.

To be fair, UK is not unique when it comes to this. Denmark has been trying to find a suitable African country for the same purpose. (@Mats to correct me if I’m mistaken)

Yes, I think Denmark has entered into some form of MOU with Rwanda too but hasn’t actually set anything up yet.

I might consider seeking asylum to Australia just for the free ticket to Nauru.

As dead cats go, it has actually been quite successful. Definitely took the front pages.

This is such a shitty idea
And Boris saying the number of people who could be sent via this route is unlimited!

So Rwanda, a country 1/10 of the size with a population 1/6 as high (also making it more densely populated) can handle as many asylum seekers as we can throw at them, but the UK is full? It’s disgusting

For now! A dead cat won’t detract attention for too long.

Isn’t this only the first expected fine for what was the least worse breach? He’s expected to receive several further fines, possibly over the next couple weeks. There’s worse for him to come.

I think the main goal is to scare people off from seeking asylum in the UK, so it doesn’t matter if Rwanda is small and crowded.

I feel bad for Rwanda now
“So yes we want to use your country as a deterrent, somewhere nobody would want to go, even if they were totally desperate. Then maybe they’ll go to Belgium or something instead.”

Poor Rwanda it’s not even that bad. I once saw a youtube video (:eyes: ) about it trying to become the Singapore of Africa or something.

Meanwhile, we - a government department - are panicking about the number of unfilled vacancies in the UK and acknowledging that Brexit has butchered the work force to the point that many larger employers just can't sustain their continued operation here.

That self-same government have just made it pointlessly difficult for migrants to come to the UK to fill these vacancies, and they've done so just to curry favour with a minority of racists.

The success with which Farage and the media pushed the Tories to the far right will be seen as astonishing in years to come. The Tories were so scared of UKIP splitting their vote that they essentially became them with a knowledge that a hefty chunk of their support would remain with them regardless.

Wow.

What a great interview. Victoria lost for words at a couple of points.

I normally love Victoria but a fucking weird interview on her part... Jumping from 'did it occur to you that Boris might not have known this was a party?' to 'Can I ask what your brother was like?' from one breath to the next. Tone is all over the place.

What I can't get my head around is how there were so many votes of no confidence a couple of months ago when this first surfaced but with the announcement that he has been actually investigated and found guilty of it not a single extra person has written in. They are such spineless scumbags.

I don't think it was about spine in the first place, just pure selfish self-interest. Two months ago there was a reasonable alternative in Sunak to protect them, now they recognise the appalling situation that Johnson's still the best option at keeping them in power.

Yeah, but the Home Office is so bad at its job that I'd be surprised if all that many ever end up getting there. It's being done for the headlines above anything else.
