All this RAIN and we've got to go out swimming and to collect the shopping before 10am
 
I've been on the bus since 7.35am on the way to work :(

Mandys still asleep / hungover.

How long does it take you to get to work? I thought you could cross the island in an hour!

Depends on the traffic. From Ryde to Cowes it's two buses, on a good day it takes about an hour. During the week with the traffic it can be up to 1.75 hours.

By car, the shortest is 30 mins.

By car you can get from one end to the other in about an hour tho!

Not at all. I have thought about it in the past but there's no real need. I'm a bit weird in that I love the bus. I sit on it, looking at the view listening to music.

I only go to work 3 days a week so I can cope with the bus those days. And the service on the island is really good.

Plus I have Mandy as a driver.

Do you drive?
 
Considering I've had a full on (RIDICULOUS) work week since my op and next week looks pretty quiet, I'm thinking of giving myself a nice day off or two next week. To do WHAT, I'm not yet sure.

Yes with the children I find it quite essential, although I know people do manage on the bus! I average about 25 miles a day with work, school/ nursery and various clubs!
 
Nowadays, I drive to work about twice a month, the reste of the time I’m either home or at customer sites (Stevenage :eyes: ). It takes me about an hour and 15 minutes when everything is fine. But it has already taken me +2h in the past.

Yeah I can imagine with kids it's very much needed.

What do you do for a living?

We basically can't take any holiday from May - August but we expected that. We do get days off tho.
 
My nostrils feel like crusty honeycomb crumbs after overdoing the poppers. Must remember to line them next time (and maybe also get the name of the brand).

And I love waking up to heavy rain. So jealous of caravan users at these times.
 
The queue in Costa was so long (and I only went in to buy an espresso so I could get £2 change for my yoga class) due to all the people buying warming chocolate orange shartaccinos :zombie:
 
  1. Costa is my preferred chain cafe.
  2. My nostrils are snotty. I feel wretched. I didn't do poppers.
  3. My trip to work varies every day, which I'm learning to love. Essex is nicer than you'd expect.

I think that's everything covered.
 
I don't like Costa's colour scheme.

But Mr L has banned me from there after he had an incident with the manager in their Warminster branch a couple of years ago, so I'm rarely exposed to it anyway.
 
My commute depends on where I'm working each day. It's between 45 minutes and 90 minutes each way depending on where I am. And assuming the bus turns up. It's been 2 hours plus at least once a week for the last couple of months. Fucking sick of it.
 
I popped into Costa this morning for my free drink. A mocha with oat milk.

A job is being advertised 1 mile from me, but it'd be a demotion as such :(

Probably for anyone else yes, but I don't know how I would cope as I feel I've worked so hard to get to where I am. I know with my skills I'd be a real asset to someone else. I worry I wouldn't be happy and then I wouldn't be able to go back to where I am :(

Mine is 90 minutes each way everyday and I swear it’s gonna be the death of me :o

Does it fit your life better, though?

What are the pros and cons? Presumably the salary is the biggest con - but what about the pros in terms of less commuting time? More time with the children? Less stress (presumably)?

If you can make it work for you financially I'd consider it. And try not to see it as a demotion - it's making your job work for your life, not the other way around. You've proved you can do your job bloody well - just carrying on doing it for the sake of it is a fool's errand. There's no shame in stepping back to something which could make your life easier. On the contrary, it's an empowering decision to make.

I get it. It's a hard decision. Is it a big demotion? Do you enjoy where you are?
 
I agree with lolly. I'm all about happiness and work life balance rather than money and power. But you have to do what's right for you.

At least with public transport like Rachey says, you can just put on music or a podcast and zone out. But it is fucking ridiculous.
