Joanne Rowling and other TERFs (1 Viewer)

Don’t wish her dead. It makes you as bad as her. She’s someone’s Mum, full stop, however much of a cunt she is.

Why not? Ultimately, she's reached a level where it's the trolley problem. There's thousands and thousands of people in the way of that carriage. She's the only person on the other line at the intersection.

I would pull that lever in a heartbeat.

But she isn’t the only person on the other line. And then she becomes a martyr.

I realise this is kind of a pointless argument- especially as we’re on the same side- but I guess it just doesn’t sit right with me.

And I can see why. It's a very strong statement. But it's not like a political situation where there's always someone waiting in the wings - remember when we thought Priti Patel was the absolute worst and then Suella Braverman was parachuted into the same job? Rowling is a focal point and - allegedly - a significant funder. She's not replaceable for them.

Also, I'd like to stress, I don't want her murdered. Just dead.

Idly thinking of Joanne Murray being on the "look at these wokist extremists thinking a black man can be a white supremacist, they just don't want Kanye to have free speech" train literally a week and a half before Yedolf began laying out his vision for bans on Jews holding government jobs in his Reich and about how being proven objectively wrong in a spectacularly theatrical manner is incapable of fazing her in the slightest.

My biggest problem with her these days is regardless of whether she’s right or wrong, she’s fully aware that she has a platform and megaphone and she’s determined to use it, and is completely uninterested in the damage she’s doing. Like, sit the fuck down and be ignorant at home in your castle with your cats.

I don't want her dead and it does feed into "so much for the tolerant left!" a bit, I do wish she'd shut the fuck up though.

That’s good! Her cult love to sneer “but what has she ACTUALLY said that’s been transphobic?” as if because she hasn’t said “I am transphobic” she’s in the clear :manson:

There's literally no example you can give those lot. Even if she said "gas all trans people" they'd find some way to say "that's not transphobic though" or that it was a joke, or something

They seem suspiciously unaware of how a good writer (such as you know, one of the worlds most famous authors) can write things between the lines.

Unfortunately another example that an actor is not their character. Sometimes they follow the same values (e.g. Stuart/Picard) sometimes they don't (e.g. Shatner/Kirk)

That has felt grimly inevitable, reading between the lines.

highly successful women in business are all cunts! they kinda... have to be. so no surprise.

(Oprah and Martha Stewart excluded from the above statement.)

Amanda Abbington has had a pile on this week as well, although from what I can see that appears to be The Telegraph appropriating her comments to whip up terfs, rather than what she actually said.

Is that the lady from Shark Tank? I’m sorry but if anyone looked like a transphobe it’s her.

Yes I know Jess gets a lot of stick but good on her for including Brianna. The comments from the TERFs are absolutely foul.

It's not just the TERFs on display here. The white middle aged male whataboutery is in full flow.

That is fantastic :D

100% true that we all whip our tampons out with one leg hooked over the hand dryer while discussing a new penne al forno recipe we found on BBC Food :disco:

Also, this is an excellent point that I had never thought of: "To compromise, therefore, everyone should use the toilets associated with their sex at birth. This would, of course, mean that (...) trans men, with their beards and their muscles and their outwardly masculine appearances, would be required to use women’s toilets, meaning any cis guy could easily wander in and say they were trans."

The only people who turned up were the neo-Nazis :D

But they’re still on the right side of history of course
