Gladiators (BBC reboot) (1 Viewer)

That was always my favourite. JET and Lightning were incredible. Cobra as well.

Lightning is/was the best gladiator of all time, and I have watched the American/Australian/South African Gladz.

Lightning only ever lost Hang Tough once in the domestic and international versions she did and only lost that one time because the Australian rings were different and she didn't have the chance to practice/rehearse.

Why have the brought this back? Who was asking for this?

The BBC show should focus on bringing back QUALITY CONTENT like DON'T SCARE THE HARE

Lightning always liked a good scissoring on Hang Tough :ken:

I was expecting a 1-2 million overnight figure so that is AMAZING. Everything Bradley Walsh touches literally turns to gold.

I know I keep banging on about it but if you are a Gladiator loon like me I can't recommend GLADPOD the podcast enough, such an insight :disco:

OMG! That is MEGA IMPRESSIVE!
I expected it to do better than Survivor, as it is a revival of a previously successful (in the UK) format. But if it had hit 4.5m in the overnights I'd have thought that was solid.

As I posted last night, most of what I've seen on twitter as well has been fairly positive, so hopefully it will hold up each week, rather than people just turning up for nostalgia and then passing on it.

I was planning on watching last night but didn’t know it was on so early.

I totally forgot it was on until I saw posts on social media.

Then I couldn't wait for Mr L to go to bed so I could watch it on iPlayer in peace :disco:

I am going to see if I can find it to watch now!

Much higher ratings than I expected.

I am sure there will be some drop off in future weeks but that is a high starting point.

How fit is Lightning stlll :disco:

I did expect ratings would be high - they've been blanket marketing the shit out of this. Social media, regular BBC news stories, regular spots on BBC radio. The trick will be see how long it lasts for.

I am also glad that didn't bring Atlaspheres back, usually was the first event in those big hamster wheels. What a borefest that used to be. The logistics of it must have been huge - but the Birmingham arena was so much bigger than the the space they have in Sheffield

Do we know what all the events are? I'm assuming it will be like previous years where it wasn't the exact same ones every week.

Pyramid was quite a boring event, but often good in terms of homoeroticism.

I don't know but I know there are a few new ones. I am guessing the Ring last night is the new Powerball - so similar. Also the duel platforms are not very high, all the original Gladiators say there was no real Health and Safety back in the day. That's why you won't see Pyramid in the UK version - interestingly the Ozzie version have brought Pyramid back. Also for the first couple of seasons there were six events each episode then the Eliminator, and they kept to an order, last night we had Duel first I think, and that was originally the last event, it went 1. Atlaspheres 2. The Wall 3. Danger Zone 4. Sling Shot 5. Hang Tough 6. Duel - they did change it up as the seasons went on but was weird last night Duel being at the front of the show!

I think Duel is possibly the event which resonates most, so I understand them leading with that.

I enjoyed this, cant remember the last time we had big event saturday night tv

Might get on the tren and train to appear as a contender in the next series

I found it and am really enjoying it. I think it kind of works that there haven’t been too many tweaks and it is great for me in a nostalgic sense. Surely kids will love it.

One thing missing though that almost ruins it all for me. NO JOHN ANDERSON.

It was such a big thing for our family growing up - Saturday evenings were Blind Date or Baywatch, and Gladiators :disco:

The only one of the "new" events from the old series that they introduced later was the one where they were upside-down on the ceiling on some kind of track. What was that called?

Skytrack!

We were primarily a BBC family, but definitely LWT/ITV had a lot to offer on Saturdays. I'm trying to remember what clashed with what, as we'd also often watch Noel's House Party, Big Break and The New Adventures of Superman. Maybe they were all seasonal and never clashed.

Who remembers PENDULUM? The only event that lovely ZODIAC was queen of.

That's the one which was a swinging ball (or dodecahedron or something), covered in netting, and the contender just had to evade the Gladiator for the time limit, wasn't it?

That's it, a later game, but when it was introduced they rinsed it, I think they were trying to get the moneys worth from that big ball! :D

Zodiac was so good at it, she was a Pole Vaulter so really used her core in that one!

COBRA was great. In terms of male Gladiators SARACEN was amazing at Hang Tough along with Cobra. I'd say HUNTER was the best all round UK male Gladiator - not sure if shagging Ulrika was a help or hindrance :D

BIG BREAK!? :nononono:
