No I'm ok thanks! We have a free right to say what we wish within the rules. Just because I'm not indoctrinated into the CULT of SWIFT, I still have to suffer the barrage of endless drivel about her everywhere. So I have a right to respond.

I'm not directly coming for anyone here and I'm not being discriminatory. I just don't like her and have opinions. Is this not what a discussion forum is about or are we so far down the line that slagging off a pop star is worth reporting? If so CLOSE MOOPY NOW.

Interesting that the bullshit around "Actually Romantic" has done nothing for the song and it's now dropped below it's place in the running order.

It's not trolling, I'm just expressing a response to endless enforcement of this woman on mass society. Just because we disagree on her, doesn't mean I'm doing anything wrong.

This is where I am with her.

She has twenty or so songs that I really enjoy, but I just don't get the absolutely phenomenal success. I feel similar about Adele, but I understand that more, given that she has about five absolutely era-defining and generation-transcending songs (Rolling In The Deep, Someone like You, Set Fire To the Rain, Hello, Easy on Me). I think Taylor has Shake it Off.

'Love Story' surely qualifies.

And maybe 'Cruel Summer' if we're including 'Easy on Me'.
 
Cruel Summer is literally the only one that gets through to me.

Shake It Off is just... Gwen Stefani levels of annoying.
 
Shake It Off, Cruel Summer and Blank Space I’d say are pretty defining hits of their eras, whether someone personally likes them or not.
 
I just think going for the "showgirl" aesthetic / concept was always going to be a non-starter for ageing Millennial gays, given that you'd need the charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent to top

Yeah if we’re including Set Fire to the Rain and Easy on Me in Adele’s roster of era defining hits I think Taylor has about a dozen or more on that level. Rolling in the Deep or Someone Like You, sure, she’s had Love Story and Shake it off on a similar level but not much else globally.

I also believe Taylor Swift is evil, this new album is mediocre, she's failed to be a showgirl, and that Denise Welch was right. BAN ME
 
Lookit, she has a few cute songs, I'm just so tired of her and the media reporting on every little thing that she says or does. I wonder if this is how normies felt about Madonna during her imperial era(s)?
 
I think we’re all overwhelmed by media these days so if someone gets a lot of press we reject it more fiercely if we don’t like them. I feel that way about Ed Sheeran. I know a lot of people feel that way about Beyonce - which I don’t get, but it happens.
 
Familiarity breeds contempt (so put me in the basement etc etc). When something you dislike is ubiquitous it becomes a chore.

Yeah I think that's the difference. It would be a stretch to say you had to exactly go looking for acts as huge as Madonna or Michael Jackson in the 80s, but I don't think it felt like you were attacked on all fronts like it feels now in the age of social media and smartphones.
 
It's depressing that her least deserving album is going to achieve so much. I just hope that it gets absolutely no awards whatsoever, though I imagine she'll pick up whichever ones go to a public vote

But that's where music lives now - on our phones and computers. When I was getting obsessed in the 80s, it was on television and in the shops - there are now a fraction of the stores and very few opportunities for music to be on mainstream broadcast television which, like radio, is less of a thing than it used to be. Also, in the UK, we had an extensive music press which no longer exists.

The bridge of “Father Figure” is the most interesting bit of the album for me. The rest of the song I’m lukewarm on. I love a few of the tracks but on the whole it feels like a lesser version of what she’s done before.

Ophelia and Opalite are the two I keep going back to. The title track is good but someone pointed out it is a carbon copy of the Jonas Brothers’ “Cool” and I can’t get that out of my head.

Definitely.

I don't know what the equivalent might have been in the 80s. But I resent that I've been getting push notifications and emails from Spotify screaming TAYLORSWIFTNEWALBUMTAYLORSHOWGIRLSSTREAMNOWTAYLORSWIFT because I listened to Anti-Hero a couple of times in 2023.

Total since March 2020 ≈ 198-203 new tracks (give or take a few, depending on edition, region-specific bonus tracks, etc.).
 
The thing about her is she really just feeds her fans what they want. While it seems ridiculous to put out 80 versions of the same thing, if people are eating it up and buying them all as collectors then so be it. Pretty much all mainstream artists do it in this day and age because albums don’t sell all that well by themselves.

I think a lot of the issue with Swift and her writing at this stage in her life is that she is a 35 year old woman that is far beyond “normal” life. Singing about boys at school and Abigail when you’re a teenager makes you relatable and seems genuine. It’s much harder to make that type of writing seem that way when you are a billionaire.

I think that happens with a lot of artists that write their own music but become so uber famous they can’t be average joes no matter how hard they try to keep that spark going. I mean since she was brought up, look at Adele’s last album. She tried to stay on theme but the woman at 30 having the same issues as the woman at 21 doesn’t gel.
