This gorgeous, nourishing cover of the Tim Buckley track is one of the most successful indie singles of all time. Simply put it's absolutely stunning, Elizabeth Fraser's vocals could sooth the most wearied soul.

171 Cher - Strong Enough (1999)

Believe changed gay history. Strong Enough sealed the deal that Cher was a gay icon for multiple generations. Built in the I Will Survive mould. There were no apologies for selling out to the pink pound, she wore it like a medal and ran with for the next almost 30 years.

The video is suitably ridiculous with lots of models getting seduced by Cher on the TV. She even broke up a straight couple - they don't make icons like this anymore.

Britain's favourite racist worked with Calvin Harris on this absolutely balls to the wall banger.

Never forget the live fail on Stand Up To Cancer, where she whisper mimed the song without realising no vocals were coming out. Fair play to her when she realised she began singing with a reasonable amount of competence.

168 Lonnie Gordon - Happenin' All Over Again (1990)

The PWL/SAW dominance had to come to an end at some point. And while Kylie carried on having hits with diminishing returns, this really was their last big hit, featuring their characteristic songwriting, albeit with more of an Italo house sound. Notably originally intended for Donna Summer, but let's face it, she was probably very difficult.

I don't think Lonnie herself has done much else of note, although the title track from the album If I Have To Stand Alone is also a bop.

Least we not forget the incredible cover by Tracy Shaw.

Thankfully you redeemed yourself with Lonnie. Still wish for the lost SAW Donna album with this as lead single but she was a good substitute.

You're also right that this (& Tears On My Pillow) being the last BIG SAW hit. There's a whole thread here around the how & why it fell off so badly, so quickly

Call me a basic bitch but this is easily one of her best songs of all time. No matter how overplayed it is I never fails to enjoy it and seeing it performed live was a highlight for me.

Fun story: in the OLD DAYS pre-social media, you could share sound clips in AOL chatrooms so when people added the sound clips to chat it would play on everyone’s PC. This was one of those clips but instead of a 10 second clip like most it would literally play the entire song. The amount of pissed off people in the chat after someone typed /titanic was glorious :D

Worth saying now that Love At First Sight does not feature. I don't care for it. It's partner in crime In Your Eyes however does, for me a far more thrilling electro prospect.

And yes Spinning Around has reached the heady heights of 167. Sometimes I'm a very basic bitch thipping cocktails by the pool, plus I really like the 7th District Remix.

I'm pretty sure I have never enjoyed Gaga more than those first couple of years. Thankfully she has done enough redemption work, to keep me interested almost twenty(!) years later.

I'd played this to death by the time it came out - for months - and yet it still surged to no.1.

Thinking of Colby O'Donis at this sad time.

So much has been said about this Christmas no.1 cover of the Elvis classic. Hated and loved in equal measure, although the haters are most likely the people who like to bellow FAGGOT during Fairytale of New York.

It is as good as Hi-NRG covers come and not all of them feature Joss Ackland AND Barbara Windsor in the video.
