I hope Nessie never died and that he swims around us still
And that he has a party in the loch and always will
I hope that he is dancing every night among the fish
I hope Nessie is aliiive
Nessie party in the loch

Also it’s called Eins, Zwei, Drei so clearly we’re going full fat fucking novelty. :manson:

There are precisely three routes to success; an off-putting twink with operatic vocals, a bloke with a comedy banger, or propaganda for an active conflict, so there's still a one in three chance it's COMIN' 'OME.

The whole “novelty” thing is a red herring. We used to send “oh Eurovision is shite” novelty crap (Scooch, Daz Sampson etc) but it’s been a while and if it’s done well (Netta, Cha Cha Cha…) then I don’t see why we can’t send something along those lines. Albeit that the card has been played quite hard elsewhere in recent times.

That’s what I want to avoid - that sort of Madladz song died with Milkshake Man last year. People who’ve heard it have said there’s Britpop and electro in there.

Yes, it's a bit taboo to refer to anything in Eurovision as outright "novelty" these days, so yes I'm really talking more about things of the "it's crazy, it's party" ilk that's been a bit overdone in recent years and is already represented by two songs (Greece and Austria) this time around.

It's not a genre, more of a general vibe, which is why I'm sure this song can still be Britpop, electro, and also presented in that fucking stupid FOR THE BANTZ way.

Oh I agree with you- I can’t bear what I call the “Cha Cha Cha” crowd- seemingly mostly middle aged women who went to a semi final rehearsal in Liverpool and decided that’s what the contest should be about.

But I also think there’s an angle to do it well, it’s an avenue we haven’t explored for a while.

We’ll see, I guess.

But even Austria has a message, doesn't it? It stands apart from novelty for me because of that.

I think most "novelty" or "joke" entries over the years, even back to the 70s, have had something to say or have been satirising something, so I do appreciate that it's quite a lazy label. It's just not an aesthetic I massively want to encourage too much of.

To be honest I just find Austria not very good rather than particularly novelty. And I don't overly mind novelty anyway unless it's hugely cynical in approach.

OK I've taken a trip to New Zealand, where this is now out.

I like it! It's very specifically Freshers Week 2009 so I can't imagine it having a really wide appeal but who cares this year anyway?

Jesus, that fucking BEAT :disco: It sounds VERY British but also like something I'd never have expected us to send in a million years.

I feel like it dodges novelty while not being serious. No idea how it will do but it surely has far too much personality and excitement to be completely overlooked by the public?

I'm just going to pretend the last three years never happened and this is the follow up to Space Man we all wanted.

Love the production, HATE his voice. He's exaggerating his accent in the same way people like Kate Nash and Lena do, and it goes right through me.

Don't particularly see it picking up points either, unless the stage show really elevates it

I live for ButterTart's annual unbridled enthusiasm for the UK entry no matter what post :disco:

Lumpy, weirdly low-energy, actively unpleasant, never-ending - genuinely one of the worst first listens I’ve had of any Eurovision song that I can remember

[although I realise this does make it actually sound quite good :D ]

I don't mind the little bit that is reminiscent slightly of Funky Town, but otherwise no thanks.

That definitely has the feel of '15th on the priority list but everybody else either turned us down or said something about Palestine on the socials'.
