It should be replaced with a quintessentially British image like the Brexit bus or a water pipe spilling raw shit onto a beach. Something that really captures where we are a country.
 
I'm sure Starmer is doing anything. Following Trump and Albanese it appears to be an April Fools prank that's spreading as fact.
 
Although LBC and the Express are reporting it's a press conference about the cost of living.

he is much more convincing on a global stage but at the same time, it's been obvious that we need stronger EU ties since the first day he took office. any actual work done on that outside of the Ukraine situation has been lip service really. pivoting to it now because of an unforeseen war feels quite symptomatic of how Starmer just responds to things happening (and belatedly) rather than being proactive or having any vision. we'll see what his idea of "ambitious" looks like I suppose.
 
The other positive to take is his openly calling out Brexit for the hell that it was, which is a pleasing contrast to all of the other Reform-chasing nonsense Labour have been up to of late. Hopefully that isn't a one-off.
 
Admittedly, I have a softer opinion of Starmer than most but I do think he’s generally spot on with foreign policy, and the Brexit stuff is very encouraging - criticising it even slightly is crossing the point of no return for most politicians, so it feels like a bit of a statement of intent.
 
The downside of this could be the gammons complaining that we are looking to Europe again (but Brexit!! Etc) instead of “looking after our own”. I imagine the right wing rags having a field day over Starmer spending too much time aligning with the EU.

I agree that it’s a good look for him and I think it’s very much needed - the more “we have to plan for a future without US” rhetoric the better. But I worry about the fallout.
 
I do wonder if Trump's recent antics and personal attacks have woken Starmer up to the fact that there is NO mollifying the far right without being willing to cross major red lines, so why try? Farage very much wants a MAGA-style revolution in the UK, and the worse Trump behaves, the more intolerable the idea of indulging Reform must be.

I'm likely being over-optimistic. And Funky is right that he will be hauled over the coals by the media ("that's not what we voted for in 2016 etc.")

This plus a drubbing in the locals will be his ending. They've already started positioning that fucking SNAKE Streeting as a replacement with him looking serious on the front pages.
 
I had a terrible JUMPSCARE last night when YouTube played an advert of the evil Wes Streeting congratulating himself for a new health centre opening.

And it did strike me that he's making a definite play - no ad agency would pick the POLITICIAN to be their NHS frontperson instead of a kindly doctor or an eager young nurse with a northern accent.

The claim is that Starmer had already announced Mandelson as the new ambassador when the vetting process denied Mandelson clearance, and the Foreign Office waved it away to avoid embarrassment without telling Starmer.

Mind you the current Deputy PM was in charge of the foreign office at the time.
 
it's also quite damning for Starmer if the foreign office can or would do that. surely everything big has to go through the PM's office.
