So I'm immunosuppressed (owing to two types of medication I am currently taking) but made the decision a few weeks ago to move in with my parents to help them through this because I had a terrible sense of foreboding about the national situation, even as far back as then (I have several friends who are medics who warned me about it). I did this because both my parents are over 70 and my mum is also type 2 diabetic but more importantly because my dad is not the greatest at following guidelines and tends to flout them at the best of times.

However now we are clearly three people in a household who are all deemed high risk and I haven't so much as left the house in 2 weeks, not because I'm worried about my own health per se but because I would hate to pass anything on to them or anyone else. We are depending on my brother, who lives several miles away, for groceries and the like and I am disinfecting like a madman.

I’m so angry at my boyfriends employer still making staff go in. They are absolutely NOT frontline services and most definitely ARE luxury purchases... which no one is even making right now.
They just don’t give a shit.
 
I know no one cares but the local zoo, which is pretty fucking good to be fair and a major tourist attraction, has posted a message saying they're closing and it may be impossible to survive after this.

I know they're probably pushing for donations, but it would be SO devastating for the town. This is reaching corners of society you wouldn't anticipate.

On a personal level there’s not much I can say different tbh. My best guess is because of the culture, a lot of people wear face masks anyway (especially in Feb-Mar because it’s allergy season) and generally don’t touch - bow instead of handshakes.

Government advice tends to be followed because they don’t usually take the piss and are generally trusted. The schools closed about a month ago - mind you the big holiday is Spring, not summer, so they’d be closed now anyway.

It’s hard to know if the reaction was quick, we are next to China and people are a bit xenophobic about Chinese so any sign of anything and they try to avoid.

face masks were gone immediately, I still can’t see them in the shops. A few weeks later there was a toilet paper rush - I think we started that trend, Australia followed - but even that has started to reappear.

what they are saying about Italy having a larger older population isn’t the big factor it’s played out to be, I think Japan has an even older population, or at least it’s close.

My speculation - because that’s all anyone is doing - is that the physical contact is the key point
 
USA with over 8k new infected today, wow. It could be that they're testing everybody, but the fact that over 100 died today, it looks really bad for them. I wish they stay at home instead of queuing to buy more guns.

A lot of those low countries aren't big on testing though right? Theres a reason we're last. I know quite a few people who've had most of the symptoms.
 
it's strange to think how an infection rate of 0.1% has brought the italian healthcare system to the brink...

Yes, we should have stats for number of deaths instead. San Marino will come first anyway.
 
Christ, a gay I haven't seen in years just messaged me saying he's recently been diagnosed positive and hasn't a clue what to do.

He's a sweet but simple soul, his message read like I have an education, so I must know. Obviously I'm glad to help, but I could only really suggest referring to the clinic.
 
I'm still unaware of any local cases. Which is madness as we're a commuter town.
 
Confirmed cases up 83 today in Scotland which would lead me to suspect we are going up in big numbers of “confirmed cases” today.
 
We’ve had 48 claimants wandering in so far today. We’re supposed to have 0. Glad to see a government department so studiously ignoring the same guidance we’re berating the public for ignoring.
 
FINALLY been told we can work from home tomorrow after everyone put pressure on management. I’ve already had to send two people home today for excessive coughing in the office, and they weren’t even temps so would definitely get paid. It’s ridiculous that they came in at all.

Meanwhile nurseries are shutting left right and centre so children under 4 don’t seem to apply to this key worker scheme for school.
 
all measures here extended till April 13th. I'm gonna go bananas working from home for that long
