Mind you, she moved there from Spain so...who knows which will prove worse at the end.
 
I was speaking to a colleague in Italy and they were saying that a difference there is that they're taking anyone who is dying for health reasons and then testing them for coronavirus, which means they're added to the overall statistic, which is apparently different from what other countries are doing. Take that for what it is.

There is so much difference between how it's been dealt with, tested and treated in different countries that it does seem almost counterproductive to compare in a way, necessary though in may be to an extent.

They probably did that at the beginning, like here (we knew of one of the first deaths of coronavirus 3 weeks after he died), but I seriously doubt they're gonna bother testing dead people when they barely can test every person that needs it right now.
 
i wonder how long from now we read through these posts and we think "if we only knew what was coming"

i'm praying (to whom i don't know) for some scientific breakthrough.

Someone on Facebook has just shared a campaign that we should all "clap for Boris" at 8pm tomorrow to show that we're supporting him. And I honestly don't think it's a spoof.

Where's that giant manson we used to have years ago?

There is *some* positivity to be taken from Italy this week though, I think. Every day this week but one, the daily number of new cases there has been decreasing. And I think this is the better indicator for how things are going there, and if lockdown is working etc.

I'm not so surprised to see the numbers of deaths go crazy this week in Italy, because that's around about a week after they had the huge surge in numbers of new cases. So it does stand to reason that so many of them are now becoming deaths.

With the cases going down all this week, hopefully the deaths will go down all next week.
 
Ooh, government announcement that UK employees should be entitled to defer holiday for two years.

Hopefully my company takes note, they've been previously insisting we take our holidays even if we're still just sat on our arses at home.

I wonder how the hell that's going to work or be enforced in practice.
 
Is the lesser amount of cases in Northern Ireland testament to our population or are we avoiding getting hit as badly because we're on a separate island?

I don't want to get hopeful but I keep looking at this map and feeling a little relieved.

Dad is in a not great place at the minute because he can't take his recommendation medication for arthritis because it weakens his immune system, and he doesn't help it by doing a crap load of work in the garden every day. And he's had a consistent cough for about a month now so I feel like it'll be hard to spot if he develops a new one because it'll just become entwined with the old one. More anxious today than since I was in Italy.

My employer allowed people to defer holidays on Thursday - they're just picking up what seems to fly on Twitter and calling it policy.

Hope he does get the clap, it might finish him off.

If anyone tries that around here the SOLIDARITY from the other day won't be lasting very long...
