There is *some* positivity to be taken from Italy this week though, I think. Every day this week but one, the daily number of new cases there has been decreasing. And I think this is the better indicator for how things are going there, and if lockdown is working etc.

I'm not so surprised to see the numbers of deaths go crazy this week in Italy, because that's around about a week after they had the huge surge in numbers of new cases. So it does stand to reason that so many of them are now becoming deaths.

With the cases going down all this week, hopefully the deaths will go down all next week.

A fair point - cases need to reduce before deaths will reduce. But deaths are inevitably the much bigger headline.
 
So my flatmates announced he's moving out! I can just about cover the rent on the flat because my current outgoings are 0, and being dirt poor for the next 3 months is preferable to spending quarantine with some random off gumtree, but STILL.
 
Well I’m feeling rotten, I have a low fever and aches. I don’t know if it’s a regular cold or corona, I guess I’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

Surely he can’t move until all this shit is over? I suppose that all depends on how much stuff he has.
 
I know this is probably a “how long is a piece of string question”, but do we have ANY idea how long this is going to carry on for? China started at the arse end of last year and were allowed freedom of movement again earlier this week so are we expecting around the same timescale? :(

He wants to move in with his girlfriend and has got a very good deal on a flat because no one is moving right now. He keeps telling me that 2 months is plenty of notice, which it would be in normal circumstances! It's annoying, but honestly id rather pay the extra rent and have the flat to myself than rush into getting a new flatmate.

From what I gather, most businesses are expecting to return to a "normal" situation by July. Retail businesses that have furloughed staff seem to have done so for 8 to 12 weeks.

I think it could make it worse. That was one of the problems last weekend - first proper sunny weekend of the year so people flooded out to the parks and beaches.

I was looking at that from a totally selfish point of view. You are totally right. For all the people who don’t have gardens it will be torture.
 
My flat only has a balcony (albeit south facing with skyline views!) but if I had no outside space at all I’d really go ROUND THE TWIST.

If I wasn't a key worker, I'd probably be feeling a lot worse than I do. At least I get the walk in and out of the office.
 
They’ve shut Victoria Park. Which just means everyone is cramming into the local common rather than the 200 acre green space which seem DISINGENUOUS.

I do love London, and have thought a few times of packing it all in here and heading down south but money lasts longer up here, although I am losing it hand over fist right now. I have endless views here of countryside but would LOVE a view of the skyline looking out over London. Suppose the grass is always greener...
 
Oh it’s great down here, but spending £1500/month on rent when you can’t even go outside feels increasingly pointless!

You don’t have to tell me that. I spent most weekends down in London with my first husband before we had kids. He had a lot of connections there. I’m sure he still does, but the less said about him the better.

I’m not even in my flat for the foreseeable (was up in Scotland at mum and dad’s for my birthday when shit started getting really bad and decided to stay) and am throwing away almost £800 a month renting a room that I have no idea when i’ll see again.

That said, i’m saving shitloads of money otherwise as i’m not really spending anything other than money to my parents for food and energy and paying my counsellor for Zoom sessions.
 
The weather here is making people not stay home... the streets were filled with people strolling in the sun and the outdoors tables of cafés are packed.

We saw Robyn not so socially distancing outside a cafeteria next to my futurw new place.

Sweden is dealing with Corona the way it dealt with Hitler; ie watching while the rest of the world is burning down and doing nothing.
 
Well they also have ABBA so I guess they get a pass for letting Nazi troops through :confused:
