Looking at figures, I reckon we're looking at lockdown again. I didn't think we would but it turns out people are just too fucking stupid.
 
I've just seen the figures and it really isn't looking good.

I really don’t think it’s just a case of people being stupid. It’s pretty impossible to completely get rid of the virus without completely locking down everything. As soon as you loosen up some measures, contamination chains are created. For one, I don’t see how schools can open without those filthy children contaminating each other and then their parents etc.
 
I think it's been said before in the thread but it bears repeating, at the peak, the people being tested were the ones being hospitalised, whereas now we're getting everyone with symptoms, so it isn't a like for like comparison.

However I do think tougher lockdown restrictions will come back. I can't see Glasgow keeping pubs open if our numbers keep sitting up at the 90s, and I wouldn't be surprised if there is a big push late November early December to get numbers as low as possible before everyone has massive intergenerational mixing at Christmas.
 
Just under 3000.... fuck. I know it's not the same as in March due to testing capacity etc but unless testing is also going up exponentially (which it wasn't last week when the cases were going up) then it doesn't change the fact we're seeing exponential growth and things could get very shit again soon.

Glad I got the week after next off to try and avoid the school plague that always reaches work by about their second full week (they went back Thurs) but I was hoping we wouldn't see a full scale second wave independent of that. Seems a really dodgy time to have to be in the office.

Yeah it normally is. I thought maybe they'd done it in some new way like single disposable samples kind of thing but it sounds like they were just limiting numbers. Looked well dodgy.
 
A complete lockdown is so difficult to police. The last time we were in lockdown I know of a lot of people who have admitted breaking the rules. People just don’t like being told what to do, and a lot still don’t even think there IS a virus. :goodgrief:
 
I read about Kate Garraways husband today and I really wish I didn’t. He was healthy with no underlying health problems and covid has ravaged pretty much every cell in his body. :(
 
Yeah there won't be a national lockdown unless it threatens the NHS, which is (hopefully) unlikely with all the extra capacity they have now. Objective is herd immunity, and my objective is to avoid being part of the herd...
 
In all fairness it is a relatively mild disease for fit and well people in the majority of cases unless you're in a high risk group (above 60; co-morbodities; high BMI etc.)

Tisch and I are sure we had it too in March although we couldn't get a test back then and didn't do an antibody test. The loss of taste was the worst bit. Well other than the fever
 
The majority of people catching the virus are only getting slight symptoms- GREAT. What happens when it inevitably spills over to the elderly/vulnerable though? In France it was mainly young, fit and healthy who were catching the virus but apparently hospitals are now filling up fast as the virus has transmitted to others , who in turn have ended up in a critical state in hospital.

With a better track and trace system and more testing that could be prevented but even now after everything that happened and all the care home deaths, there still aren't enough tests for care home staff. Tells you everything you need about this government.

The simple fact that is social distancing will not work in the long term for various reasons, and you can't keep shutting the economy down everytime there's an outbreak. The answer is an improved tracing system and swift control of outbreaks.

I totally agree with you Suedey. Things are not being handled correctly to prevent a more deadly second peak.

Good point. As I commented before, I don't know if I had a mild run in with Covid in March or not whereas, if I had the same symptoms now, I would be tested as a key worker and I would know.
 
Not sure if this came up with anyone earlier, I got a letter asking me to take part in a study for the Office for National Statistics / Oxford Uni on Covid.

Did anyone else get this?

I want to help, and might be useful since I've had Covid - but more importantly I want to know what vouchers they give you??? Selfridges please. Of course I'll probably end up with Bershka.

I got one a few weeks ago. Filed it in the bin because they can't pay me enough to stick things down my throat and up my nose. They're probably Love2Shop vouchers.
 
Ugh, this is so depressing but holding onto the fact that London has surprisingly low rates atm.
 
Local rules for Bolton say that we mustn't mix with other households indoors or outdoors anywhere. Except for work, schools, the pub, restaurants, gyms, shops, public transport ...

It's all bobbins.

I popped to Mozzers on the way to work this morning and they're no longer segregating the people coming in from the ones going out, there are no longer staff wiping the basket handles or trollies and just one tiny, cruddy bottle of hand gel on a shelf next to the entrance doors.
 
All pubs, bars and restaurants in Bolton to be takeaway only and closed between 10pm and 5am with immediate effect according to the local rag.
 
Booked to go swimming. I could cry tears of joy, taking this away from me just as I was getting back into I found quite hard. And no one to bother me in the lane to boot (so to speak). It's taken about 6 days for my arms and calves not to be sore from the gym, so god knows what I'll be like 6 months out the pool.
 
If you're based in a city in England or Wales, this Centre For Cities website is useful for looking at the rates in your area specifically. Since the focus seems to be on local lockdowns rather than national ones, it helps to add a bit of perspective to the national figures for anyone shitting it about another imminent lockdown. London, for example, is somehow still only on 15 cases per 100,000 population compared to 64 in Bradford - although is up from 11 last week.

We’ve missed it almost entirely down here. We currently have 4 cases per 100k and that’s a fair rise- we’ve only had about 250 since it began. Hope that doesn’t change anytime soon.
 
I think it’s still quite high here. Although everyone’s wearing face masks when out and about and bars and what not are pretty strict with track and trace which is nice to see, unlike back in DERBYSHIRE.
 
I don't know how widespread the issue of people being sent to far away test centres is but if it's that bad it's a total shambles.

Conversely, my test centre is about 3 minutes away. Not that I've ever needed to go.
