Descriptions include falling over in the street while completely sober, hot and cold night shivers, weight loss, lack of appetite, fever dreams and hallucinations, eyes hurting, feelings of a half-connected brain....

We've all had bad comedowns.

The thought of long covid definitely worries me. Especially having such a young family, I can't afford to spend months in bed.

I know someone with ME and he's been frantic warning people about long-Covid because it essentially sounds the same as what he lives with; post-viral fatigue. It's a life-ruiner and it's terrible.

Dammit why didn't I get an extended lack of appetite.

Seriously though, I also know someone with it (not so much a nerd, more of a hipster) and his issues seem to be mainly fatigue and changes in taste. During our Zoom chat last week he announced the taste of one particular thing (I forget what) has now suddenly come back after 8 months, which was quite a milestone. NOT FUN.

It probably says a lot how much I like food and ale that the prospect of not being able to taste things for several months terrifies me about as much as the nastier symptoms :D

Food and drink are one of the greatest joys in my life. I'd rather be floored by other symptoms for 8 days than lose my ability to enjoy them for 8 months.

Or ANYTHING by LENTHERIC, because it's such a LOVELY WORD

All the fellas say they adore my PANACHE :disco:

I don't hate the the newest Johnson catchphrase "tis the season to be jolly careful"

After the announcement today I spoke to my family and we have decided not to travel this year and spend Christmas apart. I think the idea of forgetting about Covid at this point for a few days at Christmas is totally irresponsible, and am not willing to be part of it.

:( Sorry to hear.

I haven't seen the lot of them since Covid began and simply must this Christmas, though at this point it's looking like something out of National Lampoon's Vacation simply getting there.

It's hard to decide what to do for holidays. This Thursday is Thanksgiving, and I feel a little weird about going, but my mom will be devastated if I don't. I'm getting a test today just to be sure

I am tickled by the thought that if you have 3 or more grown up children you must pick your two FAVOURITES to join you and the others are left out in the cold.

I probably will see my parents at Christmas. My mum's lost her marbles a bit and my Dad must be going mad without human company.

I can't even begin to want to deal with Christmas. We haven't been to Mr Sheena's parents for 3 years and it was their turn, but my Dad dying has left my Mum alone. She's already quite clingy with me and she's been invited to my brother's but she's said she doesn't want to do that. She wants me and Mr Sheena to go there and when I suggested she come to Mr Sheena's parents if we all could, she refused and got all "Oh FORGET IT, I'll just be alone".

It's all a no-win situation, really- Mr Sheena's parents are great and would be entirely understanding, but they're also getting on and will be alone without us this year as their other kids are either living a long way away or going to visit their kids a long way away (presuming they can travel, that is). I'm utterly fed up trying to work it all out to be honest. Was kind of hoping they refused us any choice in the matter.

I find these things really stressful. Last year we had my parents pop round in the morning and the in laws in the afternoon. That worked best rather than having everyone together like previous years

Where are Mr Shee’s parents? Could you have them all at yours?

We live on the top floor with no lift- my Mum and her Parkinson's couldn't get up there. Also suggested we have them at my Mum's, but my Mum doesn't want that either and I can kind of understand that bit as it's currently a bit of a state- we've started tearing it apart, basically, to get it ready to sell in the new year.

His parents are in Reading, so about an hour and a bit away on a good day.

Where will she move to when she sells up?

Normally we're really fair about it and it works well, but my Mum is just being clingy to me. I get it, but it's just hard. I'm not coping with it all very well in general, to be honest. I'm struggling a lot to keep a lid on things- lockdown means that I'm her bubble and that means I am there literally every day. Factor in the new job which is generally working 10-12 hour days at the moment and it's been fucking hideous. I literally get up at 7 (which you lot know is LATE for me but shows how exhausted I am), work by 7:30, finish at 17:30 earliest, go to hers and cook dinner/ sit with her, come home, go to bed. ENTIRELY unsustainable :D

She's got to. The house is huge and has loads of stairs and she's basically infirm. She's not happy about it and has changed from "Yes, in the new year" to "Well, we'll see" and deflecting the questions. She keeps going on about a two bedroom flat she's seen but it's not warden controlled and so we're having to put our foot down about that because she needs that now. She's just not getting it.

And don't get me started how yesterday, having worked 11 hours, gone there to make her dinner and sort her out and give her some company, I asked her if my brother was going in today/ tomorrow as I've had to come to Wales for work (the only reason why I've got time to be on Moopy now to be honest) and she said "Oh I don't like to bother him, he's working so hard". Yeah, he does. 3 days a week in a supermarket. I could have punched her. :D

It's a bit of a shitty option, but could you and Mr S see your respective families separately on the day?

Hmm. I was looking forward to just spending Christmas with my mum in our bubble. My dad initially invited us round as they usually go up north to see my step mum’s sister or host various other people. We had lockdown as an excuse to say thanks but no thanks, and now I expect the invitation is open again. I’d rather pop round for tea on Boxing Day, but we’ve all become closer lately after the recent situation with my brother.

I do wonder if it's heading that way, but we haven't broached the subject yet.

That's tough :( Give her a little more time though, everything is just so recent so it'll take time for her to settle and find a routine. I think a warden place is a good idea though, my gran lived in one till 96 and it was great, friends literally next door and a communal living room/ garden meant there was always someone about.
Hang in there x

Thanks love.

And yeah, that's the thing- she'd LOVE it! We'd been trying to get them into a smaller place/ warden controlled type of affair for YEARS anyway and they've just refused. Now it's been sprung upon her really and that's difficult. We're currently clearing a lot of the house- you should see the junk we're finding. My Dad was a hoarder- not in a mental health way, but in a "oooh, that might be useful one day" type of affair. I'm halfway through the study at the moment- literally 20 pairs of old glasses, often broken, with arms missing, or just one lens, six brand new wallets that he'd obviously got as presents (some still had gift tags he'd saved tucked in them) but he never used a wallet- didn't give them away, just put them in his cupboard. Sadder, though, was all the art stuff- for years he'd said he was going to draw/ paint and seemingly bought loads and loads of stuff over the years but then never used any of it. It's fucking mental how much stuff there is. He lived in the same three pairs of trousers, five shirts, three jumpers- like a lot of old people. THIRTY PAIRS OF TROUSERS we found. Never wore a suit. Amazing that he had about 10 of them then. We took 15 bin bags of clothes to the clothing bank at the tip- had to be there as nowhere else was big enough to take it all!

Anyway, I digress. She's not as bad as him, but you still get "oh keep that, the kids might want it" and "you're not throwing that broken camera out, it cost your Dad lots of money, we might be able to ebay it" (current ebay price for working version, £0.99 :D :( ). It's just constant hard work.

Sorry CORONAVIRUS FANS, I didn't mean this to turn into a WOE IS ME BUT IT AIN'T CORONA thread :D
