BY THE WAY, I’VE ONLY BECOME VEGAN SINCE I BROKE FREE OF MY ADDICTION.

I MEAN, HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A VEGAN ADDICT?

I’m doing a bit of roasted veg tonight with sausages. I think I’ve overdone it on the garlic. You could do that with a sausage substitute.

Acting superior is just a DEFENSE MECHANISM developed after the twentieth person starts rambling on about BACON.

Being a vegetarian is a lose/lose: I make my life more difficult and I can't even feel morally superior

GREAT if you don’t want to eat animals or use animal products but I really couldn’t give a TOSS. Obviously I’m not getting at our @Nancy here, but it’s mainly when you go out for food with them and they try and make you feel bad.

As much as what I said above, it's not really about them making you feel bad (unless your friends are real militant vegans, I guess) and more about your own cognitive dissonance, I suspect.

Well, THAT'S ME, at least.

And something I also don’t quite get with non-meat eaters is eating SUBSTITUTES. I know it’s just crushed up mushrooms or whatever but what’s the point of eating a non-meat based diet if you’re just going to eat meat substitutes? What’s the point? :D

ERM, BECAUSE IT DOESN’T RESULT IN THE MALTREATMENT OF LIVING CREATURES AND ULTIMATELY THEIR DEATH

Also most of them are VILE. Just eat veg. I’m no vegan but I know a thousand ways with VEG

They taste especially good when its been long enough you forgot what meat actually tastes like

A lot of the meat substitute meals are a kind of gateway into veganism, aren't they? It makes it a lot easier to face the transition if you think you can just swap things, rather than completely reinvent your diet. Particularly when the British diet is (or at least certainly was) so based on meat and two veg.

I mean YES, I understand it prevents maltreatment of those poor chickens etc etc, but why move to a vegan/vegetarian diet and just eat a load of fake processed meat, rather than EXPLORING different REAL foods instead?

I don’t really get the need for substitutes. Chick pea curry for example. Easy as fuck, accidentally vegan and I make it frequently

I think that I am just used to certain foods and substitutes made it an easier transition (though I'm not a vegan). And sometimes I just want a certain food. I eat a lot of veggie sausages especially.

I only eat substitutes once a week or so though. They aren't the majority of my diet, and they probably shouldn't be anyone's, since they are so processed. But even if they are, it's still better for animals.

Chickpea curry is delicious
