A friend of mine just got a positive PCR whilst on a solo trip away, and now he's spending his 40th birthday and Christmas in a serviced apartment somewhere.

Normally I'm pretty blasé about catching the 'vids, but I think I might hunker down for a few days.

Oh Kate :(

I've had a horrible cold for 3 weeks now, pretty much daily testing because of work but they've all been negative so far - despite having several cases at work the past two weeks *touches wood*

I'm in the office Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...thinking I should probably do a LFT each morning.

In my (limited) experience the LF seem to flag up when you're a couple of days into it and virus levels are high. I had mild symptoms about 2 days before mine showed positive. Both the kids had negative LF but positive PCR on the same day.

I’ve just had a positive lateral flow test :(

Booked a PCR test for tomorrow morning, I started feeling grim yesterday but it has just felt like a cold. Don’t have any actual covid symptoms so I’m hoping my PCR is negative or I’ll be spending Christmas isolating on my own.

Thank you - I don't want to waste them. I have no symptoms at the mo' so I'll just mask up and keep jamming.

Yeah I remember in the height of the first wave hearing about all these people dropping dead etc but not knowing anyone IRL or online with it except maybe 1 or 2. Now it seems everyone has it - I have a feeling it's going to find us all soon. And if I'm honest, and I REALLY hope to be correct for the sake of Moopers with it, I have a feeling by far the worst impact is the isolation rather than the effects of the virus.

My best friend also got it, his worse symptoms so far have been a sore throat and some flu-like pain in the bones, no fever, no difficulty breathing at all.
We think it's the omicron but we'll know tomorrow for sure.

I have booked PCR tests every day of this week to immediately have one available just in case I have to leave in a hurry if Qatar decide to put France on their red list :zombie:

I haven't booked my flight yet :D I'm supposed to be working from home until Thursday. However if I noticed a hint of Qatar putting us on its red list I'm saying FUCK IT and booking the first available flight. I'll be working from home, just my sister's home :)
At least you’ll get a winter sun tan :disco:

So essentially: despite the new variant being seemingly rather mild in regards to symptoms for most vaccinated people, the current panic and uncertainty in Britain is to try and avoid the NHS buckling under a wave of new infections over the next few weeks...the vast majority of which will presumably be unvaccinated people...who have been "marching for freedom" over the past couple of weekends (at least they have in London) and presumably infecting each other leading to the next wave..?

This just all seems so ludicrous and depressing, I wish they would all MARCH FOR FREEDOM right down to the local vaccination clinic, as THEY are the very people who are denying the rest of us from the freedom of being able to move forward with our lives :zombie:

I’ve got ANOTHER fucking cold. This is my FIFTH since the start of October. Still testing negative though, so presumably still avoiding the ‘rona.

Crazy case rates in London right now.

One of my colleagues had a birthday get together at some club/restaurant on Friday. I didn’t go, but today they said it was rammed full of people behaving as if there was no pandemic at all. At this point I’m only just about OK having a sit down meal with close friends and family if you know/trust them to have been careful themselves, but wouldn’t go to a club full of strangers dancing around.

I’m still getting daily emails from mailing lists for various venues talking about their New Years Eve bookings and DJ sets in pubs etc.

Apparently no new measures for now. If any changes are implemented between now and Christmas I won't be paying attention. I will continue to test and mask but they can FUCK OFF otherwise.

There won't be any new rules before Christmas. Not a chance.

If there are new rules, I suspect the 27th. Which is enough to make the inlaws not come up at all for Christmas (oh well)

I can’t see them doing anything before Christmas now, even though they really fucking should. It would be political suicide, which, let’s face it, is the main thing going on here.

NY is fucked, though.

His stock has dropped to the point that I don't think a lockdown will be particularly effective no matter when it's enacted. People are restless and angry, we're being asked to sacrifice another Christmas and new year for a lockdown which should have been enforced much sooner, and the people issuing the directive have very clearly not followed their own rules at any point throughout the pandemic. I just think people will throw their own parties anyway and say bollocks to it.
