Fruit and Vegetables

I crave fruit. Especially in summer when it’s properly in season. I can just eat pounds and pounds of the stuff.

I've always loved vegetables. I find them much more satisfying than fruits, which are usually too watery.

Brussels Sprouts are major for me.

And of course olives. They're an unquestionable staple in our cuisine. They go with everything.

For something that essentially smells like FARTS, I'm SOOO willing to eat Brussels sprouts!

Oh yeah, of course olives, you can't call yourself Mediterranean and not live for olives and olive-related products!

My favourite fruit is not a very common one, and now it's hard to find good ones, but when it's good I could die. The translator says it's called custard apple for you.

My favourite fruit is without any doubt POMELO. It’s so meaty and delicious and its huge size suits my big apetite.

Because of pomelos I’ve now (finally) started getting into the other citrus fruits.

My problem with fruits in general though is that I want them to be sweet and juicy, I don’t like them to be sour.

It gives me a soar throat. And I’d hate to smell of it.

Chives are some of the most evil things because unlike onions and leeks, it’s a hell trying to pick them out of your food...

I must admit for a Lebanese I'm not THAT into garlic and I'm kind of ashamed of that the thing is it can easily take over a whole dish if used in excess.

I hate coriander with a passion! Onions, garlic and green chilli go into pretty much everything I cook.

Obviously they’re necessary evil, but it’s awful when they’re raw or when their taste dominates the meal

Grow them, I did a few plants last year and they were amazing.

I would love to grow my own fruit and veg but living in a flat with a balcony, I’m limited to herbs. I have put down for an allotment, though, and hopefully will get one in the next 18 months or so...

Sainsbury’s do cherry tomatoes in a TIN which are delicious actually. They’re my go to for pasta sauces.

AMAZING for making your own pizza sauce with the extra sweetness.

I once grew potatoes in a potato sack a friend bought me as a Christmas present. I did everything by the book, was so excited, spent a fortune on compost and then ended up with SIX FUCKING POTATOES. Never bothering with that again.

I tried Asian pear for the first time a few years ago, they were proper yummy. I've not seen them around recently though.

Has mango not been mentioned yet? A chilled and perfectly ripe mango is divine. As are strawberries when they're in season, sweet like candy. And watermelon juice is amazing, I could drink buckets of it. Bananas are the best though, so handy to bring in a bag, fantastic with peanut butter on toast and comforting in porridge. I eat at least one a day.

I love veg as well, I often enjoy sweet potatoes, roast broccoli or kale and edamame more than the meat or fish we have them with. And carrots or mushrooms in a miso glaze are wonderful. And I could eat petit pois every day.

I hate most beans though, especially kidney beans after getting sick from them as a child...
