Gladiators (BBC reboot)

Series one of the BBC reboot debuted with 8.37m, with 5.54m for the final and an average of 6.17m

Series two had a debut of 5.38m, final of 4.71m, average 4.73m.

That's all 7 day data.

I think both previous BBC series were aired when 28 day data wasn't available, but this now is. If you look at that, series one debuted with 9.857m, and the final had 5.998m.

Series two debuted with 6.290m, final 5.107m.

I've just caught up

Initial Halli-Nerd thoughts:

-So glad we are back to five events after the celeb 4. (I want the initial six!)
- The contenders from both sides were remarkably strong and we need more of this
- I think its time to make a few cuts on the Glads. I wanted to love Comet but she's no JET
- New event (one of three!) was well...different and confusing but I like the creativity
- You can't have The Wall near the end of the show - its a starter event!

I have never enjoyed the wall and rarely find it exciting. To think the first OH series there was a 20 second head start. I think it’s because climbing a wall just seems rather basic now given the amount of climbing walls there are for the general public.

I feel they need to up it to six events a show (unlikely given how long it takes to set up five) or have 8 heats, 4 QFs etc (again unlikely cos cost). Otherwise the will need to cull events as already there’s too many for the amount of slots through the series. Unless they are happy with some events doing a Tilt/ Joust/ Hit & Run and literally appearing just once a series.
One of the events in this weeks show only makes one more appearance this series. One event from the prior series makes one solitary appearance this year and another event doesn’t appear at all (though was still listed on the AV persons desk so assume was maybe still planned to appear).

The number of Gladiators is also too much, especially if you have an event like Destruction where there’s just one Gladiator.

But on the whole, still happy it’s back! Apparently there was an injury in this episode which then ruled out a Gladiator for the rest of this series.
Legend on The Edge, but it wasn’t referenced

What are these please?

I wondered about Legend coz on insta he tore his bicep and never did the live shows last year.

I read on another forum that this all happened on day 2 of filming so presumably they didn’t acknowledge the injury because he appears against a contestant that he competes on day 1 of filming in the coming weeks.

Collision is SO boring. Reminds me of swing shot/hit and run/danger zone in just events I was NEVER interested in

See I was not a fan of the water element of the sky reboot, ie falling into the water after events/hang tough. But Everest seems an event where that would be fitting and look really good! Smoky water

I didn't see the intro, but there's no initial advantage for the contender right? Like there was in TILT?

Emily is very strong at the events but even without the travelator travesty she needs to up her game on the Eliminator to stand a chance.

Everest doesn’t work. If the tilt was less or an angle maybe but it more or less hands victory to the contender.

As someone whose fave event was Tilt back in the day, seeing its name used for another event makes me sad.

This was show 4. They are clearly trying to spread out the appearances of the Gladiators who got injured early on.

Yes I was thinking that, there was no DIAMOND tonight when did she get injured? I just assumed it was on the last live tour shows

Maybe the nepo son with the curtains that look like halves of an easter egg (just me? Ok moving on) could get an injured vocal cord and Legend could stand in.

I think tilt will likely be modified. Doesn’t seem like either male should have been able to hold against either gladiator although they did get a lower to the floor which would have helped them wait it out.

One hopes they adjust it. I guess they have to be careful and rather that than risk it just being like Sumo Ball where no one moves (which is where some of the matches seemed to be heading before the tilt).

Bring on Suspension Bridge… though not sure how Clattenberg will handle the rules. Back in the UK and Aus OG series the rules were all over the place! Half the time the referees forgot the aim was to get to the other side not just knock the gladiator off.
