Gladiators (BBC reboot)

WTF happened to Athena on Hang Tough there?
Apparently she was injured before the series started. I guess once the rings twist the instinct is to untwist rather than let one go (though I guess do that and you have no momentum). I assumed she might lose when the commentator twice said she was undefeatedz

Nice to see a few firsts this show - Diamond on Unlessh, Steel on Hang Tough and Comet on Gauntlet (celebrity special not counted).

Suspension Bridge desperately needed - Duel is rapidly overplayed and getting dull.

I love Duel but I don't like it as the first event.
Tyler was so impressive - definitely one to watch!

Tyler was amazing. Feels like the likely male champion so far. I don't begrudge Duel as it's relatively short and so iconic to the show, but I'd still be up for seeing it less.

I liked Everest, but not how it was weighted in the contender's favour. I'd like tilt to kick in in favour of whoever's winning (i.e. just tilt naturally towards whoever's nearest the end after ten or so seconds of shoving).

My 17 year old 6th former gay in me would have been obsessed

I feel the producers definitely don’t seem bothered about the Gladiators being undefeated on events?

Yes I think that's the main thing - Gladiators are there to be beaten and its boring when they are just miles and miles apart from the contenders.

I guess Its a balancing act, but I always remember thinking for the initial series' - the Gladiators can practice and practice with the actual event or equipment for weeks and weeks and will have had training camp to do that. That, is actually their main advantage apart from a weight and height advantage, but only works on the strength events. For example you will get a Tyler who is 5ft 6 and no matter how strong he is, never going to win on Duel or Everest, but could run rings around any Gladiator on some other events, including probably the Eliminator!

Also, Cyclone is amazing, terrifying, super strong - very much a Nightshade, if she can get her act together and not be in some kind of daydream ie last week on Duel.

But how Tyler managed on Destruction was really something else. He had no advantage over the others at all.

Regarding Destruction I feel like the “punching holes in the wall” one is a bit redundant when Giant and Bionic are about the height of the wall anyway.

Rugby tackling surely.

He has great bursts of speed, will be good at absorbing/"soaking up" impact and the footwork of course.

Cyclone is doing a lot better speaking to the mic - the "compliment" line was good.

Cyclone is probs my favourite female Gladiator this series. She's settled in really well

Unlike fellow sophomore Hammer who I'm yet to connect with. And what are you doing with that hammer, bro? You just bring it out and put it down. It's no benefit to you at all, neither use nor ornament.

Hammer logging onto moopy:

"Slipped off" yet the close-up shows the Gladiator's hands not even touching the contestant there on Hang Tough.

We were spoiled last week. None of those guys were impressive in comparison. Army doctor seemed good on Hang Touch, but I missed the gladiator slip. Shouldn't have took a break from Olympics for this episode.

Odd that they just decided to end Powerball rather than bring on a sub. Electro found fuming.

I had wondered if Huntley had been injured too in Powerball and once Diamond was injured they just decided that’s it. Powerball doesn’t appear now for the rest of the series and I’m guessing it’s a mid series axing. Saying that it appeared in all the live shows.

Yes very odd about the Powerball end. I wonder if it was the last event of the day and all the other Gladiators had retired for the day and gone to the bar :D The edits would have us think they are all hanging around in that changing room :o

Cyclone is bloody petrifying, she made me jump at the start of Everest :D

Another elite episode. Loved all four contenders. And loved Shaun wearing his dad's tracksuit (a FAR NICER FIT than the current tat) and I'm sad he + his pleasing arms and legs probs aren't going further.

Agree about Hammer not really fitting. His pose with the hammer in the opening credits and the stats looks really clumsy.

I do think it's time for some new blood in series 4 though.
