Gladiators (BBC reboot)

I think I really like Demolition and Everest because they’re pure strength based whereas some events feel they more like have an element of luck to them like Powerball feels like fairground basketball game half the time.

The guys were pretty poor tonight. I wonder if there’s gonna be a suitable match for Tyler

I like those new games for that too - but its all about mixing the events up in terms of power - I think Powerball needs a lot of skill to beat the Gladiators especially in terms of agility and then power in terms of being able to fend them off. I don't feel like it feels like fairground basketball..
 
The final heat of this series is on at the later time of 8pm tonight because of the FA Cup. Wonder how that will affect ratings
 
Gladiators insta says it's on iPlayer from 4pm, so no need to stay up past bedtime :disco:
 
If it's on a 8pm, this may be the first episode I ever watch live as broadcast.

Five mins in and I was very taken with Sid’s slow motion bouncing tits in his VT.
 
They need to re-think the stairs, any gap the contestant has is instantly shrunk to arm's reach.

I'm going to wait until 8pm I think and watch it like old fashioned way!
 
1 contestant is always screwed in this game. Sometimes whoever is first is the one getting stuck, but refreshingly not this time.

Yes, I think it's a mistake making them have to step on every stair, particularly with the gargantuan reach some of the Gladiators have. They ought to just let them climb at whatever speed they like, or make them bigger if they are going to insist on stepping on each one. It still is going to slow the contender down a little.

Wow. They give that Irish plank woman a ladder, but they don't think to have his shoe ready for him on the travelator? Health and safety with his head banging off it as a result. He would have won that. Ugh.
 
If some sort of eliminator event isn't used in the audition phase, they clearly need to tweak it as it's getting the better of so many of them. Advertise to those hyrox obsessives. The monkey bars falling was insane - that was on her.
 
All the Eliminator chat and are we ignoring that Electro was given something to do and Comet was given two 1:1 events?
 
I swear I'd never seen Comet before in my life. Nor had I heard Electro talk. Were a lot of the female Gladiators stuck in traffic or something?

Absolutely PHENOMENAL Eliminators tonight. Sid thinking the second whistle was to stop play (has he seen the show before??) and then the tragedy of his lost shoe.

And then poor Nikki fucking it off the first high bar twice :D

I’m glad Shaun is back too. And the girl from Cleethorpes.

I was there at the filming and can’t honestly remember the Comet result on Duel, I thought it was a draw for her again. It’s a shame they don’t give her more but respect for her doing Duel three times now given she’s not really the Gladiator for it. That Wall performance though, at the time I was like WHY ARE YOU WAITING? Go for the easy win!

Poor Athena getting not only Gauntlet but the dreaded stat of “12 times on Gauntlet”. She doesn’t appear again this series (no on screen injury, she just disappears)
 
I'm loving that injury isn't the end of Legend getting screen time. The other injured Glads (and ones who were disappeared after getting injured last year) must be a bit miffed
 
Halli-Jury thoughts for this ep:

- I agree they need to get rid of the step rule on Unleash, if they make it to the steps, the contender should be able to get up them as they need to.
- Atlaspheres - was always one of my most boring events - see Danger Zone and Swing Shot too. However, this one had some kind of Nostalgia given the imagery of it so i think it works much better as a race and as crash course.
- My God this was a episode for the weakest contenders wasn't it; especially the females. Notice on Duel they had Elektro for the first time and Comet, who is not suited to that event like JET wasn't. That'll be giving Electro a trial on that event and then keeping it fair for the other contender. Electro does seem criminally underused.
- I kind of feel time is up for Athena if they are going to make any Glad changes for the next season

funny looking at some of them and then the ones that are just replicas of another. I think with some tweeks they have done well this time round with Unleash, Everest..
 
As much as watching Apollo's arse is a very pleasant way to spend an event, he really is a void in terms of charisma.
 
Apollo and Athena are dead wood, I'd say get two new ones in to replace those two next season.
 
Apollo whipping out a sonnet or long-winded "your mum" set-up has been his audition to make his mark, but overall no persona has landed. He is fast so if Nitro chases after one, then he should be the other. Both these guys get a groan from me when they want the mic.

I wonder if a one or two episode per season (after the final) could be a bit of Gladiator against Gladiator on some of the events. It would definitely be great TV seeing 2 compete on the eliminator.
 
Poor Nicki being forced to climb that rope and fall TWICE before they brought out that ladder, when they brought it out after about 5 seconds for Vogue Williams who is about a foot taller :D
