Joanne Rowling and other TERFs (1 Viewer)

I'm no expert but the feminist movement in the US seems a lot more intersectional than in the UK, where the main conversation drivers are white middle-class academics or again white middle-class Guardian journos.

And middle class is usually a (self-styled) UNDERSTATEMENT.

I would say you're right. The UK is TERRIBLE for understanding how prejudices pile up when they intersect. In particular, anything involving both class and race seems to be beyond the UK columnerati.

I've rarely read anything TERFy on NYT?

Women didn’t fight this long and this hard only to be told we couldn’t call ourselves women anymore. This isn’t just a semantic issue; it’s also a question of moral harm, an affront to our very sense of ourselves, rollback of abortion rights isn't the only danger to be worried about when women are also being erased by the trans agenda, etc. (this is the one that drove Bette Midler to take up arms)

Greatest threat to free speech today is the trans cancel mob

Greatest threat to free speech today is the trans cancel mob, again.

Can't even say gay or lesbian anymore because of the trans agenda, why is everything "LGBTQ" this or "queer" that.

Such stereotypes belie the lessons Mel Brooks and Marlo Thomas imparted in the beloved sketch “Boy Meets Girl,” featuring a girl baby and a boy baby, the latter of whom thinks he might be a girl because he’s afraid of mice and wants to be a cocktail waitress. Back at Main Street School in 1980, where my third-grade class performed the play version of the book, those were the most coveted roles. Everyone wanted to be one of those babies! I didn’t get the part, but I did get the message. Like other liberated kids, I accepted the reality of biological science that I was a girl — and rejected the fiction of gendered social conventions that as such, I should incline toward pink dresses and Barbies.

Now we risk losing those advances. In lieu of liberating children from gender, some educators have doubled down, offering children a smorgasbord of labels — gender identity, gender role, gender performance and gender expression — to affix to themselves from a young age. Some go so far as to suggest that not only is gender “assigned” to people at birth but that sex in humans is a spectrum (even though accepted science holds that sex in humans is fundamentally binary, with a tiny number of people having intersex traits). The effect of all this is that today we are defining people — especially children — by gender more than ever before, rather than trying to free both sexes from gender stereotypes.

The rest of this column is kind of a flimsy mess and one gets the impression that it was all built around these two paragraphs.

I love how the terfs literally invented the ‘you can’t call yourself a woman anymore!’ storyline, because their beliefs are so flimsy they actually have to invent stuff to be offended by.

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but nobody has ever told me I'm not a man, just because trans men also are. Such a stupid strawman

I went to look at her and I'd already blocked the sad mess. I just block TERFs.

"I don't like any other curry than the tesco one" :D

stupid cunt. get taste. get a grip!

So... speaking as an Irish transwoman (who took forever to admit to herself she was a girl) why are there so many TERFs in the UK?
I also think there is something to do with self-actualisation and seeking happiness. As a country, we have a bit of a reputation for revelling in misery and often sneer at those who believe they deserve better or to be happy.

“No-one likes their body - just deal with it.”
“Why should you get treatment in the NHS when so many other people are waiting for help?”
“They keep talking about wanting to be happy … bit self-centred of them.”

Although this could describe any manner of situations but it definitely applies to transition. Transition involves an active decision that you are not going to put up with your lot, and Brits can’t stand that. Especially exasperated, dissatisfied and undermined middle-aged, middle class white women in stale, sexless relationships with emotionally impotent men that make up the bulk of the TERF demographic. They have put up with their lot and they are fucking miserable because of it.

This quote tweet of TERF rhetoric that I just saw totally proves both mine and Peekaboo’s point - not only does this TERF paint an extremely heterosexual vision of womanhood centred on being a mother, but the portrait is absolutely drenched in misery and ‘living as victimhood.’

A lot of them seem to fall into a category of thinking they are incredibly smart and witty but demonstrating their immense stupidity as soon as they hit the keyboard.

Out of interest, does she have even one case study to support this?
Rowling is referring to a specific case where the rapist has just been convicted. She committed several rapes against women, whilst identifying as a man, and then subsequently began to identify as a woman. She's now facing a custodial sentence and there is some debate about where she should go. She would undoubtedly be at risk in a male prison, but is also plausibly a danger to the other women in a female prison. She is currently on remand in a female prison and is being held in solitary confinement, which is not an option for the entirely of the lengthy sentence she is facing.

Obviously, using the case of one scumbag to smear the entire trans population is disgusting, but that's Rowling for you.

She's really gone full Glinner now. All she tweets about at this point is "examples of trans crime" and related stuff

If this was "examples of black crime" it'd be seen for what it is

It's incessant now and the mask has very much slipped from the "I'd march with you but..." days. Probably because Musk has stopped moderation so she knows she can be her true self without risking being deplatformed

Absolutely deranged opinion piece from the Guardian (what a surprise!) comparing someone saying Rosie Duffield should spend more time with her constituents to Andrew Tate in the misogyny stakes:

The writer has form:

Catherine Bennett has always been horrifyingly transphobic. Why the Guardian give her any sort of platform is astonishing.

Totally done with her silver-tongued "how do you do fellow reasonable liberals" era, she has the audience she wants now and she's happy inside of it.

Fascinating to see how it's just normal every day folk turning up to protest trans rights

This is what those who are "saveable" in some way need to understand - supporting minorities and progressive causes means you need to be on side with ALL of them, you can't pick and choose. On the other side is always fascists. When they're done with trans they'll come for gays, it's basically that whole "They came for x but I'm not x so I didn't speak up for x" speech.

It's not certain yet, there's just enough plausible deniability. But looks to me like Jonathan Pie has taken his first step on the bandwagon

Not sure it's an accidental misgender either as there was a now deleted quote tweet still calling them "him" towards someone who corrected him.

People will also have the "Jonathan Pie is a character" defence (as if Tom Walker's real self has no input on any of his content at all)

Aside from the mean tweeting and the mislabelling, what does saying Sam Smith looks like a fool have to do with terfs?

I think Sam Smith looks like a fool, as it goes.

As I see it, the misgendering is the first step towards the anti trans radicalisation funnel I keep seeing people on Twitter get sucked down. I may be wrong - time will tell. But often something like this is followed up with "and this person also looks ridiculous [image of someone in early stages of MtF or generally not 'passing' so well]"

I interpreted Sam's video/latest performances as more of a trolling than an act of self expression. But I don't disagree with Cloud.

I hate all those nasty comments about the way Sam looks or dresses in the video. I love the fact that he just looks like a regular guy dressing the way he wants .. Why is it that only guys with ‘perfect bodies’ have the right to be sexy ? it really is so boring how it always comes back to this .. I keep thinking things have finally evolved but they still haven’t… and gay people ( who should know better ) are really not that much more evolved.
