Kylie - Padam Padam (1st single, May 18th) (2 Viewers)

Keep it buoyant rather than aiming for one big week. That's the game these days so I;d have to say it was being played pretty well.

Yeah and they can’t just unleash everything on a whim. Even getting more CDs in stock, which they did, takes time. A top ten peak would obviously be phenomena, but so is a top 15, and in the long run it’s better to extend it’s top 20/40 chart run while they have a hit doing genuinely well on streaming than just chase a position or two.

Dave and Central Cee have another song or two that are lower down in midweeks but now getting huge Spotify updates that will likely rise to easily top 20, possibly top ten, by Friday that may well slide past as well.

I get all that, but resisting a first top ten single for nearly a decade and a half when it's so clearly within grasp seems crazy, and I doubt would have too much impact on the longevity.

But I guess that's with the benefit of knowing how it's doing now, and that this level of success wasn't anticipated.

Oh I fully agree that would be the ultimate goal, but I wouldn’t say they are resisting it - they’ve chucked out an extended version in week one to nab the top 30 and now a physical single (with two loads of stock) for this week, and we are only on week three. I don’t doubt they would love one, but they had no idea whether it would be midweek #5, #10 or #20 so it’s nearly impossible to line everything up for one moment.

Anything they could chuck now would take away sales in future weeks and seem as we finally aren’t after a one week wonder with a Kylie single it would probably be a bit short sighted, let alone the logistics as I assume remixes, vinyls and anything else have lead times and are already mapped out well in advance of this surprising success it has had.

But where is she? She needs to be doing PROMO!!!
Secret mini-gigs, album teasers, TV spots the usual stuff!!
PADAM TO THE TOP!!!

Why is there this assumption that the song can't rise any further beyond this week?

Just realised we might get a Kylie top ten single and a Louise top ten album this week!

Watch them both go to #11

I HATE NUMBER 11 SO MUCH AND NOT JUST BECAUSE OF ONE MORE CHANCE AND LOVE PROFUSION (iykyk)
Yes, 11 and 41 are the most annoying positions and I’ve seen loads of songs I like end up there. Dannii’s imperial top 10 phase was ended by Perfection charting at #11 which I’m bitter about.

As for #41, Stock Aitken and Waterman were apparently convinced there was some chart conspiracy against them as they had that many peak there...

I actually wouldn’t be surprised. Off the top of my head Hazell and Sybil had two each stall there, and they do have loads stalling in and around there. Schoolboy me was fuming Sam Fox got stuck at #41 for a couple of weeks with I’m All You Need despite being on Wogan with it.

Apologies to Eddie for the non Kylie related posts before he wades in.

Have those two other Dave tracks leapfrogged it or is that still to happen?

I think there's something like 300 between her and #10 but yes, since those two Dave tracks are still technically behind her, it seems unlikely that she will be able to get there this week.

Bananarama's More Than Physical was a #41 and was in the film Rita, Sue and Bob Too, with characters dancing to it whilst it was on TOTP, which, of course, it never was!

And considering how CERTAIN posters seem to be turning EVERY SINGLE THREAD THEY POST IN into their USUAL UNRELATED drivel at the moment, I think our EDDIE can cope with a couple of SAW comments. But just in case...

PADAM PADAM

I honestly have no problem with it.

PADAM.

We need a thread for this sexy discussion :disco:
No. 41 and No. 11 FORUM NOW
etc. etc.

Many an indie band found themselves outside the top 40 due to shenanigans, most usually "regional weighting" - if a band had too high a percentage of their sales locally, they were knocked down a bit to make the chart more "accurate". Which is ridiculous as most bands start with a local fanbase and develop from there. World Of Twist, one of THE great lost indie bands, were twice denied top 30 due to this and Runrig should have been No 5 with Hearthammer but for the same policy.

Oh sorry, PADAM etc

Guys do we need a poll for which PADAM is our favourite in the song?
I think this one below is mine:

Padam
PADAM
I hear it and I know
Padam
PADAM
I know you want to
Take me HOME
PADAM
And get to know ME CLOSE
Padam
PADAM
When your heart goes
PAAAAADAM
PADAM

The original is best, she never quite captured the same magic in any of the follow up padams.

I'm PARTIALLY FOND of the 6th PADAM :disco: you can clearly hear Kylie's desperation, extreme emotional distress, and urgency. That particular PADAM exudes a deep sense of hopelessness, helplessness, and despair.
Is that the “personal” part of the lyrics she’s mentioned as part of this album.

She’s signed a whole 10 copies of the cd single for a competition. Should have signed another 500 for that top 10.
