Lana Del Rey - Lust For Life (sync tonight 5.40pm)

"God Bless America" - the unofficial sequel to "National Anthem"?

@RJN - have you heard this album before? Any others you haven't heard before?

I can't tell if God Bless America is meant to be sarcastic or not. The gun shots kind of make me feel like she's gaslighting us

this is basically the most musically diverse Lana Del Rey album so if you're struggling to differentiate... :D which of her other records do you know well?

Well I was obsessed with her first album at the time. My sister and I would listen to it every day on the way to school for months. But I never got into Ultraviolence, and never gave it, Honeymoon, or Lust for Life much of a chance. I got really into Norman Fucking Rockwell and listened to it a lot last year. I just have a blind spot for everything in the middle.

I know there are different sounds to her music, but it kind of all makes me FEEL the same.

It's not blending that much today, especially reading the opinions. And I really like the one I'm on now (God Bless America)

the gunshots :D how CHEEKY. this album is definitely a turning point for her in that she starts telling the stories of other people and dipping more into the mythology of Americana, as opposed to being the protagonist and focal point of her own unhealthy psychodrama. like Love, this a vaguely happy song.

playing Lana Del Rey ON YOUR PHONE? at least hooked up to the soundsystem I HOPE. the disrespect otherwise!

I was truly astonished at the vox in "When the World Was at War..." when I first heard it - I think I cried!

this is the exact same journey I took with Lana. major fan during Born to Die/Paradise, was totally turned off by Ultraviolence (West Coast aside) and then basically lost interest for years and dismissed her as a one-trick pony, got into Lust For Life after the NFR era began, and then went back to the stuff I'd missed. I LOVE IT ALL NOW.

except Honeymoon. Fuck Honeymoon.

Pretty much every album since the debut has taken a while, then suddenly clicked. It's the same every time. Even Honeymoon, though that remains bottom of my list.

Hypnotic!

When the World Was at War, We Kept Dancing is one of my favourite LDR tracks. it's so TRANSCENDENT! she sounds like a fucking HEAVEN SENT ANGEL sent to absolve us of all sin. as @Christmas Tisches said, those high notes - sleigh.

especially love the lyrical sentiment for the fact that she's never shown any particular ability or desire to dance. :disco:

5. Honeymoon

The lyrics to Beautiful People, Beautiful Problem are really gorgeous and the bass is sublime. It doesn't really work like it should for me. And I always laugh when Stevie Knick's voice comes in cos I'm not expecting it (and I'm not really sure this song is crying our for a feature at all)

love that she saved up all the FIVE MINUTE EPICS FOR THE END.

Stevie sounds like a fucking gremlin with a severe cold on Beautiful People which slightly dampens the appeal for me, and I don't really understand the MESSAGE either. a bit basic, but it's still pretty.

I waited for you
In the spot you said to wait
In the city on the park bench
In the middle of the pouring rain...

I dreamt a 1940s post-WW2 concept video featuring Lana as a widowed lounge singer giving us lewks and emotion...
