It's always been a Lana song! There are around three different demos floating around before Max got his mittens on it but apparently, he only wrote a bit on it and convinced Lana to find a new chorus (The original chorus used to be the Take off, take off... chant) and some bits were sung in an entirely different key not to mention the production sounded more akin to Lana's sound aka death march music. Max entered the picture with a poppier sound and The Weeknd wrote the Cause we are masters of our fate bridge.

WHAT A SONG! it has become my joint fave on Lust For Life. the sheer drama of the chorus is folktronica heaven!
