Moopy Dance Anthem Rate 2020 - Nominations close Saturday 23rd May

Second post updated with SorB's selects. I should have said there's nothing to stop you from posting your lists in the thread as well as a talking point (In fact, I think that's a good idea), I just needed them DMing to me for my easily addled dyspraxic brain.

Regarding remixes, are we really not just having one entry act as an effective umbrella for other mixes? I went with my favourite version of Dreamer (all that piano, it's a sound I can't get enough of in dance), but I can't imagine the votes it might get are purely for that one :D

I'm probably going to nominate it in unremixed form if no-one else does.

And yeah the remixes sitting next to the originals is often quite grating.

I have the 1995 remix CD of Dreamer and the remixes are the absolute TITS.

With regard to mixes, I decided to let people specify a mix and open the floor up to multiple versions of the same song because there are some that are completely transformed beyond recognition and become the definitive version. Southern Sun is the example of this in SorB's list - the Tiesto mix is by far the most well known, but is worlds away from the original version.

What will you do if the same song reaches the final more than once?

I'm thinking maybe a couple of snap head-to-heads, unless it's obvious from the voting that both versions are massively popular.
If there's only one or two overlaps in the masterlist to begin with, then it's not really going to be an issue.

Also, after a bit of rummaging on Spotify I've found the unreleased mix of Southern Sun with the suicide lyrics. It actually made me gasp aloud, I'd started to think I just imagined that it existed.

Which mix?

Which mix?
Confusingly, it's always just been listed as the 'Tiesto mix', same as the released version. I randomly downloaded it YEARS ago, and couldn't find it again for ages. It's pretty much similar, but the lyrics to the chorus are a lot more pointedly about killing herself. PARTY!

Do you have to pay for Spotify? Because I just go straight to shuffle when I click play. It's the reason an amazing Crystal Waters remix didn't make my list.

I shunted poor Crystal off my list too

Which one?

I am trying to track down the Erick More remix of 100% Pure Love if anyone has it? It's on her 2CD The Collection, but I don't think I can find it at this point. She is an understated but absolutely essential 90s dance icon.

I think specifying the remix version is fine for some songs, no? Especially those where the single version wasn’t dance st such but got spruced up with off yer tits mixes.

Oh for sure. Just adding a remix when it's already a legit banger risks splitting votes (or something).

But if there was an equally brilliant "Dannii's Sloppy Seconds" remix of Sensational I wouldn't enter that too, I'd merely shoehorn my story about how this other anal prolapse remix brings back memories of being fisted by a lesbian to it "back in the day" or whatever.

The whole thing (including the original) is about suicide, no? At least that was always my interpretation

I think both are, to be honest, but this one basically spells it out.

"I'm tempted to throw myself to the sea
Cos it's easier to drown
Than to face the weight of this insanity"

In the other she makes a non-committal reference to 'flying'.

I’ve always found that one quite intensely harrowing so it’s obviously in my all-time suicide trance favourites :disco:

I have an idea: why don't votes for the same song via different remixes count as one, with the edit that got the most votes being the one that would go through?
I was thinking of putting any repeated songs in the same semi-final and sending through whichever (if either) gets the most votes. Is that what you're suggesting anyway?

:D at DISCO DROWNER :disco:

I’ve just realised that for all these years, I thought she was singing “‘Cause it’s easier to float” rather than FLY

Frankly I’m sticking with that interpretation :disco:

What? No!

I've said before but an old colleague of mine knew the singer. Her brother was married to her. Still alive though, can confirm.
